Issues with Spa Cycles - advice?

In the end Spa Cycles issued a refund, but only for the cranks and not for postage. Which to me says they don't believe it was a defective part. They sent an email saying the refund was a goodwill gesture. Well, at this point I am glad to have got most of my money back (postage was only £4...

Issues with Spa Cycles - advice?

So I thought, and yes, we all have them. It just happens. But I spoke with him 3 times. And 3 bad days in the space of a week it means he's either going through something so bad he shouldn't be dealing with customers, or that he's so rude that...he shouldn't be dealing with customers :)...

Issues with Spa Cycles - advice?

The finishing of the crank was shocking, yes. But it was also a very cheap set, so I wasn't expecting high quality. The biggest issue here, however, is not the poor quality of the crank, but the quality of Spa customer service.

It was one of their own cranks, yes. The XD2, I believe.

Issues with Spa Cycles - advice?

I will probably send them an email (once I get my refund), as I want to make a last attempt to explain the situation. It doesn't sit right with me just to get the money back as a goodwill gesture, I would like for them to understand that there was a real issue. But I can't and won't forget...

    Maybe there are two Johns...🤷‍♂️

Issues with Spa Cycles - advice?

It looks like they changed approach, and yesterday evening I received an apologetic voicemail (not from the same person I had spoken with over the phone). He literally told me "disregard what my colleague told you", and issued a refund. I'm having contrasting feelings. On the one hand I find...

Issues with Spa Cycles - advice?

Hi guys, I seem to be one of the few unfortunate individuals who is having a problem with Spa Cycles. I bought a chainset, tried to remove the inner ring, and found out that thread came off with the bolts. John, the owner, told me to send the crank back. Now he phoned my and said he cannot...

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

hehe, yes, I did speak with John. I understand he's a northener, and I didn't let it get to me at first, but during our last call he literelly hung up on me as we were speaking. Not cool. Anyway, we can all have a bad day - it's all good. Yes, fair play on them to take the crank back...

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

To be honest, the main disappointment was Spa itself, I spoke with them over the phone a couple of times and they have been quite rude to me. About the crank itself, the quality was quite low, but so was the price, so no problem with that. The real issue was that removing the inner chainring...

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

In the end I got a 160mm chainset from Spa Cycle, but I was very disappointed, and I sent it back. It's a shame, because it's essentially the only 160mm on the market, so now the choice is between 155 and 165mm. I found these...

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

I decided to try the 160mm cranks first. 155 might be too short even for my legs. Also, contrary to what I remembered, I still had a few mm left in the seat rails to move the seat forward, which already helped. There is a bit too much weight on the front now, but the pedaling is already...

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

Very nice post to read, 2manyoranges. Having shorter cranks will definitely help upping the cadence, as pigman suggests. I don't much climbing, if any, so I don't anticipate it being a problem. Although it's interesting to think that at home in Italy, I run 170mm cranks on my MTB and never felt...

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

I'm basiclly the opposite. I have short femurs (short legs in general, but also high tibia/femur ratio)

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

The problem is that they are unusual sizes to find. SpaCycles makes cheap cranks. I doubt I can find a better deal than £38 for a complete chainset.

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

Oh yes, definitely. By a rough estimate, I think that I would end up using the inner chainring in place of the outer. I will play around with cassettes too.

I need shorter cranks, but by how much?? (155mm vs 160mm)

Hi guys, I finally decided to invest in new cranks. I currently run 170mm, which are way too long for me. Various formulas found online and several measurements of my legs, tibia, and femurs, all point to 160mm as my ideal crank length. However, I would like to reduce to a minimum the...

Left side tandem crankset on a bike. Bad idea?

I'm definitely getting that crankset, then. I'm going to be so much faster without those 20g!

Left side tandem crankset on a bike. Bad idea?

But the arm is still there, just behind the crank arm, or is the bolt directly bolted onto the crankarm?
