New frame, new project (touring EG Bates frame, 531)

I think I will shelf the project permanently and put the frame for sale. If someone wants it, give me a shout. It is badly dented though...

The project is on hold at the minute

The RX100 calipers I got have 57mm of reach, so they should be more than adequate, IF that's indeed a brake mount. I'll have a go. I am not that interested in running super fat tyres, 32-35 are more than enough for my use.

yeah, not ideal from the aesthetic point of view... I got myself a pair of RX100 calipers, when they come I will check that what looks like a caliper mount at the back is indeed a caliper mount and not just a hole in the chainstays bridge. If it is, I may consider mounting calipers. I do feel...

1' threadless fork - can you double check that what I am plannig makes sense?

It also have caliper mounts at the back, so I could run either type of brakes, at a push

1' threadless fork - can you double check that what I am plannig makes sense?

hehe, you speak like a reasonable person, which I am not :) Headache for sure, but money not necessarily. Components are of similar price. Of course, considering I even alrady have a quill adapter at home, it's very stubborn of me not using it...

1' threadless fork - can you double check that what I am plannig makes sense?

It's generally only in the threaded section, I think. Why? What doesn't convince you of this idea?

1' threadless fork - can you double check that what I am plannig makes sense?

Thanks. Yes, but even with the headset, I am looking at 130-140mm needed for the steerer. Of course, ironically, if I go with the threadless option, the streerer needs to be longer, to accomodate the stem, so I need in fact to have a longer unthread section. I don't have a fork in mind just...

1' threadless fork - can you double check that what I am plannig makes sense?

Thanks. It's more of a light touring bike, so I am not too concerned with weight, but I will bear that in mind. But at least in principle, I could cut a threaded fork and using it as threadless, right? The inner diameter should be the same, so I will be able to install a star nut in it?

1' threadless fork - can you double check that what I am plannig makes sense?

Hi all, I recently got a vintage-ish frame ( see here: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/new-frame-new-project-touring-eg-bates-frame-531.457176/ ), which accepts 1' forks. I think I could benefit from using a modern handlebar with 31.8mm diameter, so that it's easy to find stems of...

New frame, new project (touring EG Bates frame, 531)

I will try tomorrow. It will be quick to just put the cantis on and try a wheel. It will also helpt me decide what fork to get. Following the link provided by @hamster I saw that SJS has a very cheap fork that would suit me, but I am now wondering if I should instead go for a threadless...

New frame, new project (touring EG Bates frame, 531)

The difference between 27 and 700 is pretty small in any case, no? Probably with canti either would be good as there is more play in shoe position than with caliper brakes. At least if talking about short reach

Then I can definetely not build a whole bike for that price :)

A custom fork would be way too expensive. I can build the whole buy for that price, probably. SJS has some nice forks, the only one with 1' steerer are also very cheap, £35!

What would be an example of decent quality fork?

Yes, essentially I am undecided if doing that or keep them and go for the canti option. I can be a bit indecisive at times

New frame, new project (touring EG Bates frame, 531)

That's would be an idea, but I am trying to get rid of parts because my flat is starting to look like a workshop, so I can't do that. There are extremely cheap 700c forks with canti lugs on eBay, I just can't quite decide whether I want to go down that route, or get a road fork and use caliper...

New frame, new project (touring EG Bates frame, 531)

It sure needs some love. I think I will build it and if I like it strip it and repaint it. I haven't checked yet but I suspect they are for 700c wheels. I was actually thinking to buy a cheap generic 700c fork. They weigh a ton (up to 1.2kgs) but they are very cheap and look really tough...

New frame, new project (touring EG Bates frame, 531)

Hi guys, I got my hands on a Bates frame and I intend to make a bike to use for light toruing, cross-crountry, commuting... I haven't received the frame yet, so the photos are from the ad. It's not in a nice shape, and part of the reason I bought it was to "save it", and I am really looking...
