Mid range retro vs budget new

Weight will always be an issue with modern bikes, when the new safety standards were introduced a few years back pretty much every frame went up in weight over night and it's neigh on imppossible to find a sub 5 lbs steel frame these days. A big word of warning if you go down the retro route is...

Needed - Loan of Hope Brake Lockring Tool

Does anyone have a tool for undoing (and doing up) the lockings on early Hope dices brake hubs that I could borrow, I'd happily pay for postage plus a bit of beer money and obviously send it back afterwards.

What's your most hated bike job....? Me, rebuilding hubs...

I don't mind hubs, actually wheels are my favourite bit. I hate bleeding brakes mind.

    Reliable MTB parts that last

Like a lot of people I commute to work by bike most days, 10 miles each way, unlike most people my commute goes straight through the middle of my local trail centre and whilst I stick to the fire road on the way to work I like to have a cheeky play on the way home. As such I probably do more...

    We must be gods

Given the hype around the plethora of new sizes and standards which have been released in the last couple of years and the fact that we some how manage to ride off road with 135mm hubs, qr skewers, 26" wheels, square taper bottom brackets, parallel steerers, steal frames, and limited front...

Hope pro2 conversion to bolt on caliper

Not tried this but the Pro 2 axel if definitely a larger diameter than the old Ti-Glide / XC hubs. I would guess you have two options 1) see if you can get some bearings with the same external dimensions as the Pro 2 hubs use but with a 12mm bore for and older axel 2) get someone like Cofa...

Hope pro 2 Evo rear hub

Yes, I've done the opposite with the DH version of the Pro 2 Evo and gone from 150mm to 157mm by changing the end caps.

Anyone make half decent MTB Forks with 1 1/8 Steerer

That's what I went for in the end, half tempted to buy a second pair whilst I still can and stash them away in case I damage them.

    Alu polishing

+1 for Autosol, amazing stuff, most of the time I apply it with elbow grease but for tricky to reach bits I use a dremel but remember to wear googles as it's a good way to pebble dash your face.

Mobile Users - Anyone else compose PM in the to box?

Every time I reply to a PM from my phone I seem to write my reply in the To box as opposed to the subject box and then wonder why it doesn't send. Does anyone else do this or am I just special.
