Thought it was about time I posted my bikes. Trek 8000 1991. Deore DX throughout except the XT STI Servo wave brakes and shifters. Trek 8000 1992. As above. Slight difference in the frame and later STI brake levers with push-pull shifters. Flex-stem, bouncy seatpost, Blackburn rack...

Afternoon chaps I'm after the widget that bolts on to the front mech for the cable on Treks from around 1990 or so, anyone got one to sell? Thanks in advance.

Thanks chaps I will do as k-rod suggests, the shifter is just smooth in its action so hardened grease could well be the likely culprit. If this doesn't work then FluffyChicken may have a PM from me.

The ball end of an allen key is considerably weaker than the standard end. Try tapping the bolts with a lump hammer and then using either the standard end or an allen socket and the bolts will probably come out fine. In particular I would recommend Facom allen keys as they are extremely strong...

Well it looks like I have one finally. All original by the pictures even down to the tyres except for the front changer, just need to make sure its an 18" when it arrives.

Interesting groupset. It appears that the brake arms at least were from a groupset supplied to either a Distributor or bike manufacturer pre-release.
