Recommend a small easily available quality retro frame

Thank you for all the replies. Unfortunately that Saracen wouldn't be suitable, trying to keep away from suspension and keep it very simple but thank you anyway. The Alpinestars would be too small but is rather nice. You've all given me a lot of things to think on, a steel frame would be nice...

Recommend a small easily available quality retro frame

Evening chaps I've just built up a 16" 1990 or thereabouts Cannondale for the other half but really it's just that little bit too big for her. She has no interest in suspension and wants a relatively simple bike for riding easy trails and getting fitter as well as in a few years taking the...

    legrandefromage feedback

Re: I bought a left hand DX STI shifter from legrandefromage and received a full set of STI DX shifters and levers as well as a spare set of levers which was a bit of a surprise!

    eBay sellers not answering questions!

I just asked a seller if the Alloy forks they are selling are an Aluminium alloy or a Steel Alloy to which they replied they are 100% Alloy which is pretty much a contradiction in terms. Yes they are more than likely Aluminium but I just wanted to check but I'm still not certain of what the...

XT/DX 7 speed left hand shifter or set

Need a left hand shifter, the type with both levers pushed by your thumb so either DX or XT. If not maybe a set of the M095 shifters. Anyone got anything?

    Is my Headshok beyond saving

Re: As the bearing surfaces are replaceable yes it should be able to be repaired. I have several Headshoks that need work and can't find anyone in the UK who is willing to work on them, if you find anyone let me know or Eighty Aid will be getting my business.

    Ridgeback 701lx to 703dx

Not really. Virtually everything short of the chain, chainrings and cassette are original and don't need changing, they built bikes tough back then. Mine was supplied without a seat or seatpost. It was one of 5 stolen from the warehouse in NW2, recovered 2 years later and sold off cheap in the...

    Ridgeback 701lx to 703dx

I agree with this. It also surprises me that there is no interest in things like the Trek 8000 in white as it was the biggest selling bike in its class for that year (1990 iirc)

    Ridgeback 701lx to 703dx

You can actually see where my mech side rear dropout was repaired in that picture, I still haven't resprayed it. The position of the shifter is adjustable back and forth but the grips are still too wide at that point unfortunately. The two dots on the bottom of the sticker were Madisons...

    Ridgeback 701lx to 703dx

Just thought, if it hasn't been painted yet get the rear dropouts rebrazed. Many of these it was done so badly they fall out after a few years of hard use.

    Ridgeback 701lx to 703dx

Unfortunately the Madison grips stop you being able to change gear, they had to be changed out on bikes that were sold. Here's a picture of my 703DX, if you need any closeup pics just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

    Sticky STI gear shifters

Well two cleaned up no problem but one front isn't. Looks like the ratchet is seized so I guess constant soaking and perseverance will do it. Thanks all.

    Sticky STI gear shifters

Thank you. Just remembered I have a parts cleaner full of degreaser and cylinder heads, suppose I should use that really

    Sticky STI gear shifters

Evening chaps I now have 3 push push type DX/XT STI gear shifter pods that are on the sticky side with slow returns. Whats the usual suggested way of freeing these up?

    1990 Cannondale project

Frame is an October 1990 so yes made for the 1991 model year. The forks seem rare by themselves and overpriced which is why I was happy to get the frame with them, people seem to ignore complete frame sets.
