    GT Helion

Which Spark did you go for? They were on my radar too but there was a several month wait for one in the right size. Claimed under 25 and coming in at around 28 is a bit of a gap? Whats the explanation for that? I think its only the really Top helion which comes with the full carbon frame...

    GT Helion

Re: My plan was to do a few marathon type races on it and the odd XC race, the rest of the time I like to give a bike a good rattling so the solid build should suit me. Just ordered a set of light wheels so will see how much difference they make, it might be nice to have a raceday wheelset and...

Fat, rigid and singlespeed anyone? Surly Pugsley content

Is the back wheel laced properly? Looks a big bit of unsupported rim especially with the empty spoke holes.

I decided to treat myself to one of them there modern full suspensions push bicycles courtesy of the Wiggle sale. Here she is: Coming from a fully rigid saracen Kili Ti, its a bit of a departure from my usual operating envelope. It rides superbly but there is a but, it seems really heavy for...

tyre sealant - long term use

If you leave it way too long you can get the sealant to turn into a bobbly latex ball that just rolls around inside your tyre.

what should one do with an owned-from-new K2 Proflex?

Re: A modern(ish) air shock at each end is what i'd be looking at, it will bring the performance up to date and save a chunk of weight at the same time. Fox RP23 are good and reliable, see if you can get the right eye to eye and stroke length.

    GT Grade AL/105

Re: Its amazing what this type of bike is capable of with the right attitude, i've got a Saracen Hack and use it for daft mtb stuff, CX racing and even take it out with the fast road group on a Sat morning. It now lives with WTB Cross wolf tyres which are about as good as its gets imo, they...

    Disc brake alignment issues

Re: Re: This^ and if you're an avid retro biker you can steal them off V'brake pads, they are exactly the right size for caliper bolts. Normally call them pillow washers, not sure why but they are a good tool for getting things lined up suitably.

    Kirk Precision

Re: I remember being a yoot and one of my mates got the MTB version of that frame, iirc its was terrifying flexy even by the standards of the day and in less than a year was covered in cracks. What happened to Kirk, presumably they went bust?

    Heavy Duty Geared Hardtail Needed!

Bfe is probably a good call, or similar stout steel frame. You dont really hear of forks bending or snapping these days but something with 34 or 36 stanchions should be fine. Or a set of of the old Marz dirt jumpers with the steel legs.

    New bike dilema

Thats mega light for a 29'er full suss, what is it? I've been noticing the same trend recently with bike weights, they all seem to be getting heavier across the board. The Trek fuel surprised me, I had one chalked down on the potential list and given its their xc trail bike, the next step from...

    Axle to crown measurements

Re: As mentioned above the correct length rigid will be whatever the a-c of the current suspension fork with the sag taken off. I replaced a set of fox 120mm forks (490 a-c) with a 470mm rigid, seems spot on. At a guess 100mm forks would be about 470mm so use 450mm rigid ...and 80mm forks...

The Tour Divide: anyone here done it? Bike recommendations?

Re: Looks like a full rigid carbon race bike covered in bags is the way to do it: https://gearjunkie.com/tour-divide-reco ... -mike-hall Not the bare ends set inboard of the brakes, I remember him saying that a change of hand position is essential to avoid numbness after tens of hours in the...
