Early 90s Pallisades Trail from rough to yellow.

I bought the bike which was in a garden for years. The tyres were good, the frame and forks had hope. Everything else was rusted. Sold the tyres for what I paid for the bike so a free frame and forks. The frame doesn't look to bad in the photo, the reality was it needed some love! Stripped, rust...

XT m735 any good? Is the better for less? Cranks and rings.

Really as it says. I have a 1992 Marin Eldridge Grade frame and a box of random bits, which are mainly XT (brakes, rear mech, shifters), DX front mech. The cranks and front rings are one piece good knows what and weigh a tonne! So I need cranks and front rings. Do I keep my eyes open for some...

Cone dust seal LX Front Hub

Hamster, it's the apple core hub, not the fat one. Fluffychicken, it's the silver disc in the image above. Some are silver, some are black. The same size fits a lot of shimano hubs. Sods law normally there are wheels floating about locally for a few £s. Currently they all want silly money for...

Cone dust seal LX Front Hub

Retro Spud, that's the little darlings, you star. Hamster, are you any good at popping those seals out? I had a gash hub here and buckled both of them with my ham fisted attempts. I'll even give you the cost of a supermarket own label beer on top of P&P for them if you can. :D Janners

Cone dust seal LX Front Hub

Is this seal available by itself? My LBS just went..."Not something we stock". I can find reference to later seals on hubs with disc brakes. This is an older wheel possibly 1992 with LX hub / mavic rim and they are missing. It's possible I am googling the wrong thing. Number 5 on the diagram...

Working on my website. A short ride on the pub bike, and digging out the history behind the poster on the mug. All bike related, so not a bad day.

    Cleaning wheel rims...with what?

Thanks all. I am sure I used to use Autosol, but I am often wrong. They curious side of me has ordered it to see what happens.

    Cleaning wheel rims...with what?

"Autosol" well done folks. There was something at the back of my mind that I used decades ago and couldn't remember what it was. Cheers Janners

    Cleaning wheel rims...with what?

Interesting, we have a cleaner here that has the same uses. We use on the stainless steel pans. I shall investigate. Thanks for the link. Regards Janners

    Cleaning wheel rims...with what?

Putting the 1992 Marin Eldridge Grade back together and starting from the floor..hence wheels. The rims have sat in somebody's damp garage for a long time and are best described as dull, so dull they suck the light out of the surrounding county, yes that dull! A clean with Nutz de-greaser has...

    What bike is this please

Just in case you didn't buy it yesterday at £40 and are thinking of buying it today at £70. It was on here a while back advertised as a Haro, it was advertised yesterday as a GT. It doesn't have the reinforcement or the rear U-brake that the Haros that I've seen with that frame did. But I could...

    What bike is this please

About £30? Supermarket Haro copy? Saw this for sale and passed over it. At least you gave it a wash. Janners

    Epoch freewheel removal tool.

The tool arrived and worked a treat. Needed a 44 inch extension bar to undo as it was super tight. All stripped greased and back on the pub bike. I still have the steel wheels that where original but they are really rusty, hence popped an old set of alloy ones on.

    Park Tools Big Blue book

Question... As the editions went on did they leave out things from the earlier editions as they were now "old"? Or did they just keep adding details? Cheers Janners

    Tool Manufacturer Recommendations Needed.

I'm intrigued by people bidding more on eBay for used Park Tools then some of them can be bought new. How odd. Janners

    Tool Manufacturer Recommendations Needed.

    #### QUALITY TOOLS #### Working on older bikes means parts are already a bit worn (or knackered) and removal with worn out /poor quality tools makes life even harder. Park tools have quite a name (is this good marketing or deserved?). What else is good quality? Note I would rather buy quality as...
