Re: Rides 1 and 2. On Saturday I could have sworn that the new bike was looking at me funny in a sort of 'Are we going biking then or what' kind of way. So after 2 weeks of just the short commute to work, I put on the bike clothes and ventured outside with my new bike. This was actually the...

Re: Re: Cheers :) The guy who painted it was a star and was really enthusiastic about it all, although that might have been the paint fumes ;) I'm just waiting for a nice day now, don't want the 1st ride to be in torrential rain.

Re: So, even down to the dying moments of the day we were fitting bits, bar tape, cables and so on. As people were starting to go home I was starting to infringe on someones evening but they were more than happy to get the bike finished with me. The final obstacle was a little bit of paint in...

Re: Next up, I got a bit of help and asisstance fitting the Campagnolo BB as it wasn't one I'd done before. We also had to make a little adjustment for clearance of the chainset on the frame which made for an interesting 1/2 hour. The paint on the bike was also looking really well done (whether...

Re: So, two days ago I turned up at Enigma with a bunch of parts, hoping that I'd manage to get bits that fitted my new frame OK and also hoping I hadn't forgot anything. I had arranged with Enigma that I would get some help building the bike, largely because I wanted to get it right and I...

Re: Heres a few pics of the frame with a bit of paint on. I am going to be assembling it next week I believe. bryan555 from this very Retrobike parish designed me the logo for which I am eternally grateful. As I don't have the bike here as yet, I'll get some more pics hopefully as I build it.

    Morvelo Battle Royale Brighton 6/12/14

Re: I went down for a bit, it looked pretty good and there was quite an attendance. It was pretty cold however, but thats not the events fault. Decent turnout, food, drinks etc. There were a few people in the barriers and a few racing blocks and so on, possibly not quite the etiquette of a...

Re: Re: Good luck finding a set of MTB lugs, I just spent a few hours trying! There is one set but doesn't seem to be very easy to buy. But yeah, lugged steel would be nice on an MTB.

Re: Another frame building course... Thanks :) Yes, paint is chosen, but as I left the design with the painter... Actually, thats not true, I have a copy of the design but I want to get it built then photo it :) One problem will be trying to get modern bars, stems etc in Silver, not black...

    Jack Taylor RIP

Re: R.I.P. Indeed. Having spent the last week discussing bikes, frames and builders, I was particularly sad to hear this. Here is something to watch for those who haven't seen it: Bike Brothers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALNsQpCL8LY

Re: Another frame building course... I did see the Bike Academy one when it was starting to get funding (I think it was that one) and think thats a really worthwhile thing, I did manage to forget about it and made a beeline to the Enigma one as it was there at that moment in time. I imagine...

Re: Re: Thanks, much appreciated, I've been reading your thread and glad you are enjoying it. Quite a number mention the feeling of getting on 'their' bike for the 1st time so hopefully I can get that sorted as soon as possible, but got to buy components now as I don't have any :) The build...

Re: Another frame building course... I wouldn't be nervous on going into a workshop and start getting things ready to build another frame, in fact I'd love to do it. That said, the first thing I'll be getting is a practice kit and do a bit more brazing and cutting up the lugs to see how I did...

Re: And finally, the frame. Its a Columbus Zona tubed frame, 73 degrees parallel tubes, horizontal top tube. The top tube is Columbus SL but it is a Gilco styled tube. Due to the fact it's in an oversized frame, that tube is actually a downtube. The fittings include downtube shifter bosses...
