The Raleigh is lugged. It's a 90's Canadian Portage. I'll pass on it, though it's only $25!

Bike wrenching? Not yet. But I've kept two of our cars past 400km by doing the mechanics! That's my goal here, with the "hobby", as well. And, I agree w/your post! ;)

Same as the one I'm looking at, though the one here is on the white-side. Also had a '91 Gary Fisher Evolution pop up for peanuts. I ride the Rockhopper tomorrow. I have five guitars. Should I even consider five bikes?!

I am torn between the Rockhopper (I agree, a "safe bet" - and cheap) and the Kuwahara's. I'm in Canada, and I think the Kuwahara's may be more "Canadian", than "UK".

Thoughts on the Trek 820 Antelope?

Yeah, I've been back and forth w/him. I'm sort of leaning that way myself - he testing everything for me, as he lives about an hour away. Is all set up for a road trip - even has a rear-view mirror and a rack!

    Retro Bike Shopping

Moving this into a new thread to get some more opinions. I am looking at "retro" rides, for a number of reason - cost being one, but I've never been one to follow the crowd! Currently investigating two Kuwahara's (an old Savage and an old Shasta), a '97 Specialized Rockhopper, a Cannondale...

Thoughts on the Trek 820 Antelope?

Tough to decide on which one to get! I posted the others I'm looking at, as well. The Miyata is real cheap, and outside some paint chipping, seems to be an ideal commuter, as well. I have five acoustic guitars. I could see me having five bikes! (Not sure how my wife would respond to that...

Thoughts on the Trek 820 Antelope?

My Norco Wolverins is 20#. My daily commuter, now dying on me. I could probably handle the Antelope. I should check it out. I am looking at "retro" rides, for a number of reason - cost being one, but I've never been one to follow the crowd! Currently investigating two Kuwahara's (an old...

    The Antelope is 20". I'm looking for 17-19# (5'9")

Thoughts on the Trek 820 Antelope?

Yes - it's not the fanciest, but it looks like it was stored indoors, as well. Also looking at a couple of older steel frame Kuwahara's, a same period Univega, a same period Raleigh, a '97 Specialized Rockhopper, and a late 90s Cannondale, the only one w/a suspension fork.

    1992 Trek 8000 Aluminum

Update: Back brake didn't work at all. Gears not working. Frame was fine. I passed. The search continues!

    1992 Trek 8000 Aluminum

I don't bring much to work. Small backpack w/a knee-wrap, my lunch. Less than 5 lbs. But it is a rigid fork, and the beginning/end of my commute is a little off-road/trail. I am also considering the steel Trek's from the 90s. The 930 interests me as well. But I'll be testing the 8000 out...

    1992 Trek 8000 Aluminum

Yeah, I've been thinking a mid-90s steel Trek might just be the way to go.

    Carlton Gravity

Anyone ever heard of these? I can find nothing online. Sort of a late 80s steel ATB/MTB?

    1992 Trek 8000 Aluminum

Great. Thanks. I'm off to bike to work - 26km round-trip on a 2000 Norco Wolverine that weights a ton, with slipping gears! ;) She still gets the job done, until I find a replacement, which the 8000 hopefully will be (CD$185 - I'm hoping they'll go lower. Also looking at a 970). What would...

See on for $60CDN. Needs a tune up. Looks like relatively new Nimbus FlakJacket 26" tires...

I will assume this person does not have that front mech widget/adaptor. If that's the case, I will also assume a local bike shop would still be able to service it, need be?

Looking at one of these today as a daily commuter. Looks to be in good shape. Any areas of concern I might want to keep an eye on, with one of these?
