Old 70s/80's Peugeot Single Speed - Front Brake Only?

This is all I've seen thus far. Looking for a single speed, as well, simply for fitness purposes around the neighbourhood. I don't think I'd use a single speed to commute (>26km daily). But this could be fun around the neighbourhood. Dirt cheap, too. But one front brake makes me wonder - I...

Old 70s/80's Peugeot Single Speed - Front Brake Only?

Seems many of these only had a front brake. Is that the norm?

    Kuwahara's Original Front Suspension Forks

Yep. I tend to agree. At least for my purposes.

    Kuwahara's Original Front Suspension Forks

Were these any good? And, anyone still have them on their original Kuwahara's??

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

Yep. A few Gonzo's popping up locally. I now see what your saying about the extended seat post on the Kamikaze. That's weird Look like the brakes are not where the Gonzo's are, either. On the later BRC's, the back brakes seemed to be moved up to the "normal" position.

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

You're lucky I have little to do today, now that I've pleased the wife w/the road trip up north to drop off supplies for my daughter and friend at church camp! Here are the Kurahawas. I had to add the two Canadian BRCs, just because. They are all on my radar, for a commuter. I'm in a...

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

I missed seeing the Araya today, as it's up north - the person selling was at a lake farther north for the weekend. I'm back to p/u my daughter at camp next Saturday. Can't see anyone buying it, so I'll be giving it a look next weekend.

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

Two for sale in my area, but the price ain't right for me, at the moment (the Rockhopper's cheaper, two Kuwahara's under $100.) And another Canadian "odd-ball" - A ProTour "Lynx". I was just up north on a solo-road trip to small town thrift stores, and saw a smaller ProTour at a garage sale...

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

And, from I can gather from the research some have done on this thread, they were particular to Calgary, and maybe Alberta. Wonder where they originated, overseas? Like Japanese guitars, different "makes", all made in the same shop. Interesting stuff, indeed!

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

If I can get this for even less than $40.00, I might be taking her home. I'm on a road-trip to pick up one pf my daughters north of here - 4 hours round trip. This is on the way, in one of the small towns.

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

Price a bit high. One where I am - a Tech Limited - for $250.00, another for $200.00. I think these prices are a smidge too high, but they look like cool bikes. And Everton loses again...

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

This is the same logo. Unique to Calgary! And, from your post, a decent early 90's steel bike. I'd never heard of it. Someone should write a book w/all the older bikes from the 50s - 90s. I'd buy such a book! I'll have to have another look at the Tech (or, as spelled on the bike itself...

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

This is the Araya. Needs tires. Looks old, but pretty clean. Love the colour! From the catalogues, looks to be from '83-'85 Can see Muddy Fox on the top bar, though.

    Tech Bikes and Araya Bikes

I've heard bits and pieces about Araya bikes. Can't find anything about Tech. I get a sense both had a presence in Canada. Can anyone expand on this? (I see an Araya for $40.00 - yellow 18-speed - only needs new tires. Tempting).

Thanks. I found another that wasn't listed - looks to be a '95, and may have the original owners manual. New tires. I'm getting lucky, perhaps!

Look at that, eh?! He just let me know there's apparently "shifting problems". Should be able to get it for much cheaper, if that's all that's wrong w/it. Not sure it would be worth taking to a bike shop for that repair, though. Maybe worth it. I've only worked on our cars!

Yep. Norco Canada. Living here, there are plenty. The early ones were not bad bikes. Wouldn't mind one myself!

The Rockhopper may be the one I get. It's a '93, not a '97. I'll report back w/a photo if I get it.
