    Rust under seat stays

I'll be poaching parts of this one - the rest goes to the metal recycling place for CD$0.08/lb!

    Rust under seat stays

That's the best I could get. I'm thinking of simply cannibalizing some part and taking it to the scrap metal depot for enough coins to buy a pint of Doppelbock. If you look at my thread about the unknown "Rialto Cypress", it's the same bike.

    Rust under seat stays

See photos. Old bike I got for free. Would anyone be overly concerned w/this rust? Rest of bike seems fine, in terms of "rust".

    Rialto Cypress

Anyone ever heard of "Rialto" mountain/ATB bikes? My son and I just brought one home for free - Shimano Singapore gears date it to 1991. Back brake is on the left of the handle bar, front brake on the bike. Serial # - RA221517. Made in Canada. Is this a Raleigh Canada Canadian Tire bike - or...

    Chang Star Brakes

I thought the same. And I found out the Norco's an '89. When I tried to find out more from Norco - no evidence of a Norco Cherokee prior to '93 - they had no clue when it was made. But the components confirm 1989.

    Chang Star Brakes

My '93 Norco Cherokee has these. Two questions: 1. The Cherokee also has steel rims. I'll be converting to aluminum. Will these original brakes still "suffice"? 2. Should I upgrade the brakes (looking for opinions here - would like to keep the bike as original, as possible) This bile will...

    2 2003 Kuwahara Savages - For Free!

Looks like the Shimano components are Malaysian, vs. Japanese/Taiwan. And, from my digging, Shimano opened up a factory in Malaysia in 2005. So this is not a 90s Kuwahara. 2003/Made in Vietnam. Not sure how to move tot he appropriate forum.

    2 2003 Kuwahara Savages - For Free!

Just picked these up an hour ago. One's 20", the other 16". 18-speed. Kuwahara KW front suspension. Along brakes. Looks to be all original. My son gets the 20" to commute to university. My youngest daughter, who helped me load them into our wagon, gets the smaller one. They in good...

    1993 Norco Cherokee

I know it's a '93. But it does indeed look "Late 80s". Wish it was! ;)

    1992 Kuwahara M6.0 Rage li

Anyone own one of these? Anyone have anymore information on these?? One for sale here that interst me for my son's commutes to university, but also for some Bikepacking out here in Alberta. I think this is a beautiful bike - was the seller's Dad's, stored in the garage. Many miles put on it...

    1993 Norco Cherokee

Bike Forums has a thread on old Norcos. The 1988 Sundowner looks very much like my Cherokee. But everything I find online says the Cherokee wasn't released until 1993. The derailleur seems to concur 1993 - RD-DY20. That'd be April 1993. A weird ride! Certainly not ever intended for...

    1993 Norco Cherokee

Freebie off Kijiji. 10 speed, Shimano SIS, Chang Star brakes. Tires held air - flat and dry as Western Kansas when I brought her home. Everything seems original. Seems like a '93, to me. Took her out for a run and she's not bad - the gears shift smooth, chain wasn't too rusty. Once I get...

I still have my SLF pin I had as a kid. They were a fantastic band. I had/have all their albums up to "Now Then..."

    1993 Rockhopper Front Tire

My old Norco has 2.10 and, even though they're bulky and heavy, they have been my "commuter tire" until I got the Rockhopper, which I love. It is so pristine! I like the feel of the 1.95's, though. They seem to be the "sweet spot", for me. But I am open to all suggestions - that's why I'm...

    1993 Rockhopper Front Tire

Yep. I can sense it. Off to change the tire! They are 26/1.95. For daily commuting and a smidge of not difficult single track, would you recommend staying 1.95, or moving up to 2.0/2.10... I have another beater I'll use for winter commuting (also needs tires!)

    1993 Rockhopper Front Tire

Came w/the bike on Araya rims. Anyone think this is unsafe to ride on? 30 psi.

Free Bike Day - late 80's Precision "Columbrium"

Just took this old dog for a one hour run w/my son. The low gears (15-speed Shimano SIS) seem to shift well. The high gears - 2nd is good, 3rd "eh" - good in low gears 4-5. High gear 1 is okay. It's a smooth ride on old, somewhat dry tires. It takes bumpy road well, but any jumps off curbs are...

Free Bike Day - late 80's Precision "Columbrium"

A guy got this at a police auction here, years ago. Sat in his shed since, never ridden. In bad shape when he got it - handlebar is out of whack, 15-speed gears hard to shift, Dutch Van Schothorst steel rims, "Lee Chi" levers. Weighs a ton. Ugly, too - dull purple w/the type of patina you...

So many bike sites seem to loathe "retro". Why?

I don't think you hijacked anything. I'm one of the last human beings w/o a cell phone! No joke - and I'm not technologically "maladroit"!
