Cheltenham or Gloucester Home bike builders

Not exactly a response to your request, but I usually supplement my own meagre skills with the contents of the Park Tools guide.. but increasingly these days, I learn from YouTube. Sometimes the details you need to get right don’t leap from the page of a book for me either. Was watching vids...

    Greetings!

Eric Your journey to retrobike is not uncommon. Many have come with an old bike, seeking information, or valuation.. but instead left with.. .. well.. most of us never left. You have a cool bike - you could sell it here, easily. Many of the denizens of these parts could have it looking...

BoTM Bike of The Month December 2023 - now taking entries

Wow. I have exactly the same bike - and story! The fat man also squeezed himself down the chimney with Peugeot Trail for me that year… and I picked a mint one up on eBay only last year to replicate that ‘80s feeling! (Which is to say it rides exactly as I remember.. the less said about the...

What mountain bikes did you own BITD?

The Pink / Black one would be either the Peugeot Trail or Raider.. around 1987. The fat man delivered me a Trail that Christmas. The Laser was blue and white iirc.. Ranger red and white.. So.. The Peugeot Trail was my first, c.’87 (and I managed to acquire another one last year) Then.. 95...

    1995 18" Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Metal Matrix

Hey. Sorry to hear about your situation. The forum has a For Sale section, to post kit you wish to move. Be sure to add a price for the bike, or someone will quickly slap you with “forum rules”.. If you are unclear as to value, there is a section at the top of Retro MTB chat entitled “how much...

    Too Good To Scrap/Bin??

Yes - this is too good to scrap or bin. Assuming there is no serious rust, a few hours work could have a great little bike. Certainly a bargain at £20. Wouldn’t doubt that you could easily sell at a tidy profit after a clean / service, if you were that way inclined.

Marin Team Issue, How do I clean the plated surface ?

Personally I don’t think the frame looks too bad. I would clean and degrease it well and just live with some patina - monitoring to ensure the rust doesn’t get materially worse. If however you are determined to be more proactive.. You’ll have to remove the lacquer, I’m afraid - which means...
