Do something useful with all those retro bikes in your shed.

Most of us have a few too many bikes. Instead of having them mouldering away in the shed, why not turn them into something useful? The clip also contains a few useful ideas for a wooden machine to conquer the SSUK. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV_Mmv2F_Hg&feature=youtu.be

I'll take a batch of 10 too. Bung them in with Jamie's to save postage. He's just a bike ride up the road from me. :)

I can visualise Caleb taking a photo of his sprog with that tandem in a few decades or so. It's history will be impressive by then.

    And today I did......

Today there's loads of snow and I'm cursing. Not the snow. I've broken myself again. Been training my grand-daughter for her military fitness test, taking her for long runs around the 'Puffer up the hills in the snow and ice. This is the second time I've done it. First time pulled a muscle or...

    MacRetro chat and rides thread

Jamie & I did that ride a couple of years back on less appropriate bikes with skinny tyres. We were so Retro we were Rough Stuffers. Made it much more interesting, especially as old centrepull brakes aren't as good as disks, and 35mm tyres aren't a patch on 2". :)

Don't underestimate Velo's ability to come up with something original. I'm not. You can be sure our creations will be fast enough to escape the men in white coats brigade. :)

No way! Now we have a proper challenge. Bodgers versus people who know what they're talking about. :) Just remember it's only got to survive one lap, and then possibly be recycled into thermal energy if the night is cold. Some details like seat tubes are redundant. The seat can be set at the...

    And today I did......

Damn! So all that time I've spent whittling chunks of ironwood into little ballbearings has gone to waste? My dropouts will be wood though. One advantage of this style of bike is if the last night is a cold one we can use it to get a warm glow... :)

    And today I did......

I did some balance training. I'm training my granddaughter for her military physical test so we ran 8km on basically sheet ice except where it was broken ice with icy water below. Our feet were soaked within minutes. She did complain about that, but I told how lucky she was to be a Highlander...

I've tried that technique, but observed a strange phenomenon. As the rucksack lightens so does the steering until it eventually fails completely and you go crashing in to things. I thought it might be a weight distribution problem caused by shifting the beer from rucksack to belly. I took...

2020 year review..... not so bad after all.

No idea of miles. At least a few, but as usual, not enough to keep me happy.

Re: Re: I have one for the new year. Velo has challenged me to come up with a wooden bike for the UK Single Speed Champs. I may be picking your brain. Actually I'll start now. Where can I get planks of ash or hickory. I figure I may as well try to build something that will last longer than...
