Has anyone built a Gravel bike using a retro frame

I built the gravel bike Dawes should have built in the 1980s as a successor to their WIndrush Rough Stuff oriented bike. They were still building lugged frames with 531db like this Cougar mtb. I've set it up 1930-1950s Rough Stuff style with modern interpretation of Great north Road bars. It's...

    And today I did......

Well the last great cull resulted in 3 more bikes, so the Great Cull of 2022 is going really well so far. :)

Baltic Bawbags - Now with added aftermath and pictures of actual riding

I'm nervous with heights these days. That cliff ride gives me the heebbies. I'm practising to see how long I can ride with my eyes closed to make it more tolerable... :)

I'm feeling very virtuous, I've gone all year so far without acquiring another bike... :)

Just do what I used to do in Oz. I lived in a cyclone alley, so we'd get massive tree damage. I used to go out with a folding bow saw after a cyclone and attend to the worst trees and over a couple of weeks I'd get the track cleared. However, I've never been averse to a bit of hike-a-bike, so it...

While you lot are indulging in your Saturnalian orgies, the more dedicated amongst us are working to improve the lot of mankind. Tonight Santa's deliveries will be done on the new improved model of the Universal Cycle. As soon as I have got the panniers fixed, I'm off... Merry Xmas, Ho Ho HO!

    Can you repair/weld/glue a cracked rim ?

At your own risk: Drill some small holes at each end of crack. Rub the anodising down to raw alloy and use a strip of carbon fibre cloth and epoxy. Good quality epoxy is wonderful stuff. Then follow @pete_mcc advice Just put the rim tape back on and drink so heavily you forget the past 24hrs...

The other week Jamie and I were out on the Kidical Mass ride with lots of tiny kids from about 4 upwards riding. It was a trifle gusty and twigs like that were falling beside the road while they rode on unconcerned. I have great hopes for the coming generation of cyclists.

    And today I did......

These days people stop riding just because of a few twigs on the track. Here's pic of some Jamie and I found on the fastest descent of the 'Puffer one night... 'twas a trifle breezy....

I should probably mention you're welcome to share our pits. I was talking to Jamie today, our pits will be more civilised than my usual. :) Have you got studded tyres?

I'm going to bring a stool to leave on top of some tools and spares as my pits. No set up faff. Oh, and a poncho for standing around in if it's sleeting. No shelter, bed etc. I've found those fripperies sap motivation. The event marquee provides shelter if that's necessary. I might bring a spare...

Don't worry. One thing I've learned from doing all the Puffers on a singlespeed is you're soon too numb to care... It's a very simple race, all you have to do is not stop and you'll beat nearly half the field. It's fun, variety unknown. :) Meanwhile I've been struck with a succession of...

That I like this idea may come as a surprise...

The problem is Geoff is a skilled trails rider and what suits him would not be capable of the same performance in other hands. On the other hand, I'm more likely to drag or carry my bike through the stuff he can ride. I could ride a lot of the stuff I walk, but because I'm out on my own I'm...

That I like this idea may come as a surprise...

The reason I don't like derailleurs for an offroad bike can be best explained by this photo. There we have a single speed bike with a bit of heather having worked its way into the rear disk mechanism and completely jammed it up. The irony was I'd fitted a front drum specifically to avoid that...

Will this revolutionary system ever catch on?

Hopefully this sort of bicycle doping will not catch on. Heretical foreigners sully the purity of velocipedal progress.
