Possible To Rebuild Worn Uniglide Freehub?

Yes, RJ is one of the top Youtubers for bike repairs - especially for those with machines of our vintage. Another good one is BikemanforU - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyAGxV ... 5Ik2AIf7dQ I was wondering which parts actually wear inside a freehub, but I don't think that many will have...

Possible To Rebuild Worn Uniglide Freehub?

Thanks LGF. If there's any life left in your UG bits, I would be happy buy them for spares. If you want to PM me, we can arrange something.

Possible To Rebuild Worn Uniglide Freehub?

Last year I replaced my old, worn 6 speed Uniglide freehub with a new old stock one. I still have the old hub. I've seen a few videos on Youtube by RJ The BiKe Guy, and in one he opens up a freehub and reassembles it and adds tenacious oil. Bearing in mind that the UG hubs are getting rare and...

Options For Changing 6 spd Uniglide To Something Modern?

Looks like I confused the two types there. So, basically, non-freewheel Hyperglides aren't available in 6 speed? Only 7 speed?

Options For Changing 6 spd Uniglide To Something Modern?

Looks like cheap, new 6 speed Hyperglide cassettes are available. http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/shimano-mf-t ... prod18963/ So, if I wanted to fit one of these in place of my old 6 speed Uniglide, would it work/fit? What hub/freewheel would I need, and are they available new? Would the new...

Pedals Occasionally Slip Forward When In Top Gear

Chainring wear did occur to me, but as the problem is only in one gear (18th), I suspected the smallest rear sprocket. Looking again at the photos of the chainring, it looks like it's ok.

Can I Index Friction Shifter For 3 Sprocket Crankset?

Wouldn't cross-chaining be a problem on a bike like the one in your photo? I've always understood it's bad for the drivetrain, and should be avoided. No way of escaping it with a single chain ring. This is one of the reasons I prefer to keep to 6 cogs out back, as I reckon it's the most you...

Pedals Occasionally Slip Forward When In Top Gear

Thanks. Just as a precaution, I contacted KMC to see if the chain I have is the one they would recommend, and it is the correct one. As you say, ride more (weather permitting) and see if chain stretches a little to bed in.

Options For Changing 6 spd Uniglide To Something Modern?

I wish I had the confidence. Also need the confidence to keep the LBGT pink. I knew my bike in early 90s when the bloke I bought it from got ragged by his mates. The respray quickly followed. Will get some photos for you of how it is now.

How To Add Signature On Here

Thanks for your reply. However, if I click on Control Panel, then Profile on the left side, I only get 3 options which are; » Edit profile » Edit avatar » Edit account settings Nothing about signatures, unfortunately.

How To Add Signature On Here

I can find the place on my profile that says 'Attach my signature by default:', and I have selected the 'yes' box. However, I can't find where to type my chosen signature that I want displayed. Can anyone tell me where this is hidden? Or, as I'm quite new, do I need more posts first? Many...

Options For Changing 6 spd Uniglide To Something Modern?

Really interesting post, because your pink one is the same as mine originally was. However, the previous owner couldn't live with the colour, and resprayed it dark blue. However, everything else is how it left the factory - not sure of the exact production years of these bikes. Mine still has...

Options For Changing 6 spd Uniglide To Something Modern?

Thanks. Didn't realise that. Are 6 and 7 speed freehubs the same size, or is the 6 shorter?

Options For Changing 6 spd Uniglide To Something Modern?

  Whole new bike - next stop! Seriously, really just toying with a few ideas, as I'm not very clued up at all on the mechanical side. The bike was bought second hand in early 90s and has been with me a long time. Can't really contemplate riding anything else. Will keep...

Pedals Occasionally Slip Forward When In Top Gear

Thanks for your reply, Gold Trader. The KMC X8.93 chain has the correct dimension links for my Uniglide, but as to wether it is compatible with the Uniglide in other ways, I don't know. Do you know if this chain is compatible, or know how I could find out...

Options For Changing 6 spd Uniglide To Something Modern?

BIKE DETAILS: Late 80s British Eagle MTB, 18 speed (6 gear Uniglide & 3 sprocket oval Biopace), Deore derailleurs and Deore SIS shifters This is, for now, a hypothetical question, so please don't put too much effort into going into this deeply. However, 6 speed Uniglide freehubs and sprockets...

Pedals Occasionally Slip Forward When In Top Gear

Re: Re: I think the photos may be a little deceptive. There's definitely a threaded outer sprocket fitted, holding it all together. These shots were taken after I cleaned everything up, but before the worn freehub was replaced. Are you thinking that there's too much exposed thread on the end...

Pedals Occasionally Slip Forward When In Top Gear

Re: Re: Thanks for your verdict. So, from the image, can you see that the smallest, outer sprocket is in good condition, and unlikely to be my problem? It's only in this gear that I get occasional slipping. The bike hasn't had too much use, being in storage for 20 years. Not sure why the UG...
