Raleigh bikes I have loved and hated

I remember the ride being harsh, but I was 17, had ridden a heap of a bike before and this one was far better than anything. There has also been a lot of beers since then. I remember that the headtube came unbonded, but the guy who I bought it off did not treat the bike well and came to me...

Raleigh bikes I have loved and hated

My first raleigh was a Mustang, no photos however my first proper MTB was a USA built Technium, bought second hand from my local shop. It broke. As a replacement I got a bonded dynatech, it had 2090 tubes and a serial number stamped that said DB07, I assumed as raleigh did not offer a...

1992 Dynatech (Yes - the one that hasn't snapped yet!)

I believe from a work associated that McDonald Cycles in Edinburgh have a brand new Dynatech with 2070 tubes and the larger cast lugs, ie the non ti-version. It is hanging up in the shop and is for sale.

    Dyna Tech

I would suggest that you pick up the phone and ring around some of the old raleigh main dealers. I know of a frame I had which was refurbished by raleigh and hung up on the wall last time i passed the old LBS a couple of years ago. There must be some stuck in the back somewhere. The bike I...

1992 Dynatech (Yes - the one that hasn't snapped yet!)

I had a MT2, MT4 and MT5, all snapped or de-bonded over time. I do remember the old wives tail that spraying WD40 or GT85 on the tubes debonded the epoxy holding the tubes into the machined parts.

    Raleigh Torus Titanium (complete)

That looks smart, used to have one in brushed ti finish with similar components, full XT etc. Brings back some memories of hammering the west highland way in 1996.

    Not retro but Zaskar

Just thought I would share photos of my current Zaskar circa 2005 frame taken today. I have a 1996 Zaskar awaiting rebuild with some XTR stuff I had on it originally.

    GT Zaskar frame - genuine?

I have one of these and can assure you that it is a Zaskar. I worked Saturdays at Broadribbs in Leam back in 1997 and these where grey imports by Caratti. I even have the original box it came in with the import stickers somewhere.

How do I change bearings on a Hope hub?

The instructions for the rear are at : http://www.hopetech.com/database/Rear_Cassette_hub_inst.PDF If you follow the instructions for bearing removal then you wont go wrong. I have done a few now and they are pretty easy, although they are tight. Just baist everything in WD40 a day...

How do I change bearings on a Hope hub?

I think you can download the instructions from hope web site. I have similar hubs and used large hammer/screwdriver technique after removing the axles via the approved hope methods. I also believe that you can get FAG bearings to fit, just take them along to your local bearing specialist.

    Do I, or dont I

Zaskar needs a bit of welding, so that should be a good excuse for a respray.

    Do I, or dont I

I have a 1995 GT Zaskar, one of the last US built bikes. I also have a large amount of XTR and XT components from 1994/95 in varying states of condition including some XTR hubs. Do I restore the GT with the bits and bobs, or bolt them onto a new frame and hammer them ? I also have some...
