    Help indentified This Racing bike

Re: Hi, agree with midlife, looks a 1970's Dawes Galaxy, check under the paint for chrome on bottom half of the forks, and back 'end' of the stays. No experience of Dawes serial numbers I'm afraid. Terry

    Dating an FW Evans

Re: Hi, I've got an Evans from 1946 and the serial number is in the early 6000's, in exactly the same spot, so at a guess 1947-48, it certainly looks about that date, most manufacturers were using pre war stocks at this time, the tanged dropout points towards the year. Terry

    Claud Butler id - hopefully!

Re: Hi, a few years have passed Tom, I don't have that Claud any more, but the pictures are still up. I think mid/late 40's is exactly right, my doubts with another look is the position of the serial number. If you could scrape the paint off one of your dropouts, there could be a 'CB' stamped...

    LEACH MARATHON

Re: Hi, two photos can be found in one of my albums on flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/tk_photos ... 974052502/ , the serial number is close to a Leach tandem with a receipt from April 1938, so probably March 1938. I had a closer look at the badge and it is a three not a two, so it is the...

    LEACH MARATHON

Re: Hi, the Leach you have is definitely post war, the serial numbers before the war were three digit, and the '22***' range of serial numbers I have seen on other post war Leach's, definitely 1946 - 50. I believe the badge is a post war one ( can't quite see it ) , I do have a pre war Leach...

List of British manufacturers frame numbers

Re: Hi, just as a thought, the French forum Tonton Velo has a section called 'Marques de cycles' http://forum.tontonvelo.com/viewforum.p ... 4b2eab885c which has no structure other then an area to place information, catalogues, adverts, etc under a marque folder. It allows a certain amount of...

Sun frame identification - now with pics.

Re: Hi, it is a different serial number sequence than the traditional Sun numbers, mine had a small 'B' and 'TV' but a lower sequence number and that was estimated as Dec 60/ Jan 61, so I suspect yours would be 1961, it is one of the last true Sun's. The tubing is probably straight 531, and...

Sun frame identification - now with pics.

Re: Hi, I have had a Manxman with a similar number and lugs, and was dated by the Sun expert, and given the info I have received this frame in my opinion is a 1960/61 Sun to Carlton transitional one. While Sun were being transformed into a Carlton brand, things were in disarray but production...

    1949 FH Grubb....I hope.

Re: Hi, the ally badge points to a post war Grubb, pre Holdsworth, but the serial number is not 100%, I have seen a 1950 perfection model and that was in the 2300's and on the bottom bracket, so we can assume this may be a transition model, which I think it is, it is a southern cross model...

    1950's Paris cycles

    1950's Paris cycles

Re: Hi, if a Paris which it probably is, the serial number points to 1951/2, which was at the end of the Paris/Rensch story. If it was earlier it would be an easy identification as Forks, brake bridges, dropouts, etc were all made in house, but by this stage in the story, frames were very much...
