    Cross frame bicycle circa 1900?

Re: Hi, Keith could be right but it is difficult to date from this distance, the seat lug will probably have the serial number which may be useful, the rear clearance points to an older frame but the design is commoner than you think, have a look at http://www.rijwiel.net/kruisfre.htm . Thanks...

RBotM February 2020 - Theme - Classic Rod Braked Roadsters

Re: Hi, the stand is a modern replica, an Edwardian one would be the cost of a project. It is cast iron and pretty close to the original. Terry

RBotM February 2020 - Theme - Classic Rod Braked Roadsters

Re: Hi, throwing an old 1914 BSA Light Roadster into the ring, it is not light, but not to bad, build to last. I have had it a couple of years now and it is a very comfortable ride and have done many miles on it. I believe it is pre WW1 but BSA serial numbers are a nightmare, it has a numeric...

Re: Hi, you will find that rim was used for rim braking, not rod brakes, it is a French thing :) thanks terry

French Barn Find - Buckets of Patina!

Re: Hi, all is not lost, the chart is not 100% true, 700B's are not the same as the old large roadsters, as it is a narrower width, off the top of my head, I think the old roadsters are 42mm wide and 700B's are 30'ish. You can get a new narrow 635 tyre, I have a couple ready to try on my Alcyon...

French Barn Find - Buckets of Patina!

Re: Hi, great thread, good to see buckets of rust, a real restoration, wheel / tyres may be an issue, are they 700B's or 700A's ? Thanks Terry

    H Rensch pre-war Tandem?

Re: Hi, a lovely rare example, it looks to have the later tour de france lugs, so age wise it would be in the 1949/50/51 range, the serial number on the bottom bracket would give the answer. With that in such good original condition, be patience with the sale. Thanks Terry

    Holdsworth Frame Numbers

Re: Hi, the wrapover stay is very Holdsworth, but it was a common feature in the 60's/early 70's, the mudguard eyes point to a club/standard machine, and the suggestion of Witcomb could be good, as the serial number points to it being a 1970 example, worth investigating. Thanks Terry

    Which Rudge-Whitworth bicycle is this?

Re: Hi, Keith is spot on, the serial number looks like it starts with an 'A' which points to early/mid 30's. Looks to be a fairly standard roadster of the period, wonderful condition. Thanks Terry

    1962 Coventry Eagle

Re: Hi Lee, just a minor comment, are you sure he didn't mean 1972, as I'm sure they have a velox derailleur which was only available in 1971/72. I have had one of these, and it does ride well, the forks are the heavier than normal item believe it or not. Thanks Terry

    Leach Marathon & The Raleigh

Hi Tom, these should be in the road section, and priced, but as a guide the Raleigh is a standard 40/50/60/70's Town bike, but the leach is a very nice rare mid 50's road bike. Rare doesn't also equate to a lot of money with bikes, I'm afraid, that frame will probably need a repaint, strip down...

    Ephgrave

Re: Hi Kristian, it dates from around 1957/8 at a guess, probably a Road/Path model as there are mudguard holes in the dropouts. I have a 1959 one on the road which is very similar, I'll put up a picture tomorrow tonight ( running late ). Thanks Terry

RBotM September 2019 - Voting Now Open!!!! Vote Now!!!

Re: Hi, A big thank you to all who voted for my lovely old bike, just some background, I bought it at a jumble last year, for the price of a mediocre Ephgrave frame, so they can still be found. Dating it was simple as there was a 1914 and a 1910 Continental on the tonton velo forum, and this...

If only it was bigger . The one that rode away .

Re: Hi, thanks for showing us your old Sunbeam, I'm a sucker for those old angles, they have a certain elegance, and are comfortable to ride. I have one of these in the pipeline, a 1932 one, and I can't wait to finish it ( maybe this winter ), everything has come off okay but the bottom bracket...

Re: Just thought I would counter all those lovely, beautifully crafted bikes in this months RBotM, with some age, flaky paint, and a bit of rust. I have just completed a clean, strip down, and regrease on this circa 1912 Continental 'Vélos sportifs', I don't know the model, so sports bike in...

    Sun Cycles

Re: Hi, the 'P' in the serial number indicates 1948/9, and the 'L' means it was build to order in the Lightweight shop, so probably nice tubing under the paint, its got potential, enjoy the restore. Thanks Terry
