    Gitane mixte chainring choices

Re: Re: That's a nice looking TdF. The Gitane Grand Sport De Luxe I'm rebuilding dates from roughly between 70 and 73 it seems, and I realize it's a low end bike but it should make a nice ride and it's being fun rebuilding it.

    Gitane mixte chainring choices

Re: This s my first French bike with the French bits, but I knew there were differences. I'll have to double check and make sure I was trying to turn it the proper direction.

    Gitane mixte chainring choices

Re: Thanks for the suggestion...I'll look into what chainrings are out there. Today I worked on the original bottom bracket and the headset. The cotters came out before without any issues but the drive side cup won't budge so I left it and cleaning everything up from the adjustable side...

    Gitane mixte chainring choices

Re: BTW the BCD on the Nervar crank is 128. It is the earlier style Nervar Star with BSA threads for the pedals.

    Gitane mixte chainring choices

Re: Thanks for the suggestions. I'd been leaning towards the original cottered crank, as I felt it'd be a better fit with the big gear in the back. It isn't flat here, so it would come in handy. The chrome on it isn't cleaning up too badly but I still have a ways to go yet. The alloy crank...

    Gitane mixte chainring choices

I'm currently rebuilding a Gitane mixte. It came to me with a no-name cottered crank with 52/36 chainrings. I also have an early Nervar Star alloy square taper crank with 54/42 chainrings. I'm just not sure which would be better to use. I'm removing the Simplex Prestige deraileurs, which...

    Weinmann brake lever question

Unfortunately, other than the pat# markings shown in the previous picture the only other marking on the extension levers are on the opposite side..."Japan" in a rectangle. No other markings or codes that I can find.

    Weinmann brake lever question

Thanks for the reply. Until I took the close up picture of the label I couldn't make out any of the letters for the bottom word. I was thinking it could be 'automatic' as well. Was Weinmann still manufacturing in Switzerland in the 80's? I figure that, other than the metal label, these...

    Weinmann brake lever question

Hello, I'm currently working on a lower end Gitane from the early 70's. It has a cast alloy Pivo stem and steel drop bars. Mounted on the drop bars are a set of Weinmann brake levers. I was wondering if you all could help me identify which levers they are: - blades are dimpled, not drilled...

    My 1995 Cannondale F1000

Here's my 1995 Cannondale F1000 mtb in Diamond black. It's a 1995 model but made in October 1994. I've owned it since 2003 and use it on trails and railway beds a road bike wouldn't work well on. Frame: Cannondale 2.8 Fork: Cannondale Fatty headshok Stem: Coda Handlebar: Coda Brakes...
