got this frame kinda by accident - didnt think i'd win it
frame number is 0B388 - any ritchey experts know what year this is ? 85 / 86?
got original paint, original fork and original stickers
should i keep this?
absolutely gorgeous! i would give a leg for this!
i had one a few years back - w a clear coat - and get this... gave it away when i moved - i was such an idiot -
some more pics in the gallery - and i was so surprised to how it looks modern - im building up a 86 ritchey - and man, it looks decades older than the merllin -
- thanks : )
had them custom made by Rick hunter - i could NOT find a 1" threaded straight fork from that era - non suspension corrected - he used the P2 & koski forks as inspiration
http://www.huntercycles.com/
fork is beautiful
rode up mt tam - the maiden voyage - shocked! how fast this thing is - screams uphill - geometry feels very contemporary - fits me like a glove - shifting is spot on - braking - well thats a diff story - prob doesnt help the pads are otiginal 80s compound ; )
downhill...oh boy - i refused to go...
that is incredibly badass!! - cant even imagine what it took to find some of the parts! kudos - that is one bad ass ride!
i just finished my 88 merlin - and that was mostly m730 shimano - not much in the way of cottage industry parts
love it! - i cant wait to ride it - i did a couple hills in the city - and im shocked how well everything works - shifting / braking and all - better than what i remembered from back when an m730 XT was state of the art
thanks again for that frame - happy i got the vintage MTB master approval
ha! hilarious! - nice to e-meet you!
did you sell it w those components? or did you sell it as frame?
i initially planned to build it up w all custom IRD, cooks parts etc, but then decided to go all stock m730 xt shimano
is that who that is - lol -well... i do know him - not directly - but i used to import MTBs to europe at the tender age of 12 - and met joe, gary, ross, otis at eurobike in the mid eighties -
his list of bikes should have been a give away - ; )
wow - now i have some serious envy -
i just got a 86 timber comp - in original blue metallic
any good advice where to hunt f parts? i take it u r a seasoned MTB'er ; )
