Old engines and modern 2 stroke mix ?

Am restoring an outboard engine at the moment, an Eaton's Viking made in Southend on Sea and I get from various dates on it, it was built in 1955, it's a two stroke so requires and oil/petrol mix, but at what proportion ? Way back two strokes ran on various ratios of petrol and oil, I have...

    Seiko Kinetic keeps stopping ?

Yeah, the weight is still moving freely, one can hear it even and sometimes feel that thing swinging around, but I agree, it's likely the battery has passed it's best.

    Seiko Kinetic keeps stopping ?

Ha, I found a review on my watch, mine is the 'pepsi' dialed one on this page; http://quartzimodo.com/seiko-kinetic-sk ... er-review/ But mine is battered to hell as it is always worn regardless of what I am doing and it has interfaced with various car parts before when fixing engines, but...

    Seiko Kinetic keeps stopping ?

An automatic seiko diver is what I want eventually as my kinetic 'pepsi' diver, well they don't go on forever because of the battery issue, but ten years isn't bad. The idea I had back then was I liked the hybrid design, sort of a cross between an old automatic and a modern battery powered watch...

Bored - need a new hobby.

Tools, particularly watchmakers tools and spend ages working out how they were used, as there are some pretty weird tools used in that trade and they are collectable, so a collection made has a value. Hey with such tools one could even get into watch and clock making or at least repairing...

    Seiko Kinetic keeps stopping ?

I know with these things they are much like the automatic movements in that they require motion to wind up, but the kinetics were supposed to store that motion and keep the thing running, but mine has developed the situation that if there is little motion for a couple of days the thing loses...

    The Unofficial Official Photography Thread...

Excellent, I was particularly admiring the bug, now this ^ I have not really been successful with macro yet, it's too hit and miss with my set up; an old manual nikon macro zoom fitted to a manual 3 x teleconverter, or the old way reverse a lens and fit it to the camera with a threaded...

    It's all sky.

Well, that would be effective advertising and with the wearer's of their team colours, they are paying to advertise what others get paid for which always struck me as insanity, but perhaps that comes with not being one of the herd.

    The DeLorean is back

It's gone electric ; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17428818 and; http://youtu.be/8hy-Xh08nPo A damned sight better looking than the Lotus. But the old DMC 12, does anyone see any around anymore, as there is reported to be 7500 of them. I saw one once up in Barnsley.

The 2CV go on tell me you've driven one

I have always wanted an Acadiane and yes, I liken the 2cv to the Land Rover of old in that it can be easily taken apart and put back together again and it's capabilities with what it was designed for are impressive as youtube demonstrates; http://youtu.be/JU2j-Fppt0g But I just love this...

Calling motor mechanics (or anyone with an opinion!)

I have only ever replaced wheel bearings when doing restorations of vehicles, I have really never known them to fail, although I have heard the bearings on Clios seem rather small for the vehicle, but my Clio, a Mark 1 phase 2 model with 104k the bearings are fine. Oh and the car I wrecked...

    Are Retrobike Moderators Getting Grumpier?

Until that time comes, I will reserve judgement and then take what I find with a pinch of salt ;)

    Are Retrobike Moderators Getting Grumpier?

I will not engage in the poll, because I don't believe being a mod means one has to be grumpy to do the job.

    Olympic opening ceremony

To me came the Liberal Democrats logo of the bird of freedom, maybe Cleggy had a say after all. But yes it was impressive, but the most moving part for me was those who carried the Olympic flag and Muhammed Ali as he is now - real achievers ! Some part of me though proud to be British, but...

Ebay stolen bikes and parts *for your info update*

By if we each mak our cherished parts somehow, mine that were on by bike that was stolen, had a pattern of dot punch marks in a outwardly invisible place. That being I can positively identify the parts that were on the bike stolen from me, the more people that mark their own property the less...

    With this lovely warm weather.....

Speed in a mixed 30/40 zone I stayed at 30 as lots of cameras on that road and the speeding up and slowing down, I just couldn't be bothered with, so stay at one speed, it's fast enough until I reach my area, where my speed always drops to twenty as it is a built up area, well, I am not hurtling...

    With this lovely warm weather.....

I am shocked, I just got breathalysed for apparently driving erratically and when I denied driving any different to the norm, I was told driving slow on a road that has a higher speed limit is usually a marker that a driver is ill, drunk or on drugs, so that is the truth of it, but is this...

Calling motor mechanics (or anyone with an opinion!)

Beware the term; professional, as that can mean absolutely anything, but a straightened wheel, I would not trust, how did you bend it ? The thing is now to look out on ebay, or fit a cheaper set of s/h alloys until a replacement turns up. I have never had alloys, always pressed steel...

    Univise ?

Yeah, they did do a rather useful swivelling machine vice, I have used one in the past but of the actual company, their vintage I can find nothing, but think they may be American.
