Well I picked up a NOS jett race hydracoil. Not the best fork in the world but its light and does the job.

I could do with an adjuster knob for a Manitou spyder (it connects to the elastomer)... or a knackered old fork I can strip for parts. cheers

Cheers for the help. To be honest, since playing about with the tyre pressures its really quite good rigid so no rush- will keep a look out for a decent s/h fork.

Bought a bike with an LX M569 chainset (the chainrings are all worn), is there somewhere you can still buy the outer rings new? My bike shop said they can't get them anymore and the whole chainset needs replacing. My other bike has an M739 too so a spare would be good. Cheers

Gary Fishers seem quite rare, I wanted one but gave up looking because it might have taken a year to find one. I had USA met. red steel Tassajara which was the business but got it nicked (I was only about 16 and was absolutely bloody gutted because it took a while to save up £400 at the time!)

Is it worth chancing s/h or would it be better to buy new low ends (Suntour XCR, RS Dart etc - even these will be better than most 90's forks right?). I need a 21cm tube which rules out most stuff on ebay and most of the higher end forks don't seem to have V-brake mounts either. What to do...

The abus granit-x D-lock with the square profiled metal looks the best but even one of those could be got through with a portable angle grinder or huge bolts cutters. If they really want it... If you make it more secure than the new Specialized locked up alongside then you're ok!

If you want to get a bargain, look away from the obvious. When I started looking for a s/h bike I put Specialized, GT, Kona etc into the search box and the prices were so strong I almost just went to Halfords for a new Carrera. In the end I found my Saracen which is a really nice bike for the money.

well I just bought an old bike because: 1. I realised I would need to spunk £500+ to get a new bike with decent components. Instead I got a nice old saracen, all XT for £130. 2. I'm hoping its less nickable- I know for a fact a blingy new Specialized would last all of about 5 seconds locked...
