the unofficial 'cool' 1980's Reynolds 531/501 bike thread

Nice one, LGF! Great to see my old Dawes Ranger there, and my mates Raleigh Banana Super Maverick. Here, also, for the thread is my Ilkeston-built Raleigh Panasonic Super Maverick on its' first outing on the Muddy Fox/Bike Magazine Trailblazer on the North Downs near Dorking, back in 1985...

Here are a pair of ex-shop demonstrator Dyna-Tech Titanium forks I purchased on fleaBay last year. I had intended to fit them to my MT5 however, following a chat with the owner of my local cycle shop (who used to be a mechanic at a Raleigh 5-Star dealer and built/repaired lotsa Dyna-Techs in...

Here is a Raleigh Dyna-Tech brochure that I scanned into .pdf format http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/mai ... 6f5d131902 This brochure explains the method of construction and the lists the different model numbers/frame materials available at the time (1990?). I have uploaded some...

Apologies, bojangle, for obscuring the sticker with the chainset in the first pic, here is a 'nearside' shot of the machine clearly showing the XMT100 Metal Composite frame tubes sticker. Cheers

It's wonderful seeing all these Dyna-Tech machines still being used. Now that I am the proud-owner of a Dyna-Tech MT5 I'd love to find out more about them. I have read on other threads about the different frame materials used in them but what I am particularly interested in finding out is...

Last year I provided Retrobike with a scan of a 1992 Special Products Division brochure for the Titanium Dyna-Techs. Click on this link to open the file in Adobe Acrobat reader. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/mai ... 6f5d131902 Below are some thumbnails of what can be viewed in the...

Found these images while looking through my PC files for Dyna-Tech stuff. Looks like a Voyager with the Dyna-Curve top tube. Can't remember where I downloaded the images from. There is also some 'blurb' about the Dyna-Curve. There is a little story about my Dyna-Tech 2070 'Team' mtb that I...

In 1990 I ordered from Raleigh a Dyna-Tech 2070 MTB frameset. As a keen Team Dyna-Tech fan I requested the frameset to be supplied in the Team colours. I then transferred the Campagnolo Centaur MTB groupset from my Overburys' Pioneer to the Dyna-Tech and added a Cinelli Vertical saddle and...

    Raleigh lightweight special edition.

Yes, Gump, you are right, the head tube looks shorter on my mates' Banana MTB. The seat post didn't come with the bike, it was added later I think. If you look at the Dawes Ranger photo you can see a similar one with a QR for sliding the seat back (not that I ever used it).

Ah YES, my old Dawes 'Ranger'. She had such a loooooong wheelbase. Never saw many of them anywhere BITD, and still don't. Anyone here in Retrobike ever have one, or where you all into Yankee Metal? Can't remember when I sold it-on, but must have been before I got the Raleigh Pan MTB, so...

I don't know if he did keep any records of the bike and, unfortunately, he now lives in New Zealand so can't find out it's owner-history. I lost-touch with him years' ago and only found-out he was in NZ when I bumped-into him in Waitrose when he came home for his mothers' funeral, and that must...

    Raleigh lightweight special edition.

Back in '87 my mate bought a Raleigh MTB and had it painted in the Team Raleigh Banana colours. I think it was the standard-issue Avanti, with just a respray by the Special Products Division, and a few extra bits fitted to his spec. It looks a bit similar to your acquisition. Here is a scan...

    1990 Overburys Pioneer

Yes the Campagnolo Centaur MTB groupset was/is very heavy and quite over-engineered for its' time (the brake levers a case-in-point). The hubs are still running great after 20 years of abuse. The ratchet on the click-shift thumbie for the rear gear broke years' ago and so gear changing has...
