Girvin sussie forks - yey or nay?

If the linkage stuff, bushings are in good condition, then yay. As jimo says for me too. The ones below were on my 757 and were about the best ive used. And, not a fork-specific stem either. Side-on they look badass, front -on..that marmite thing again! Potential to pimp them up too, with a rear...

Is a new Shimano BB-UN300 as good as the UN50/70?

When used to un71/72 its hard to trust anything else. Ask for a used, but tight n smooth un72. Or look for stronglight jp 400. Fsa power pro aint too bad. If un300 is anything like un 55, they can keep it!

    1990 Marin Palisades zolatone refurb

The zolatone paint is as good as gets really. Warm soapy water and a washing up scourer will do the job ok. Its dries a little slow, almost porous. Good little project for you, is the bottom bracket ok? Usually gritty by now.

When did it lose it for you.....

I reckon retrobikeguy has spoke on my behalf, yet i can open up more on the marin thing. I recall 1993/94 and realising marins have become a silver over-dose. Almost totally lost that 90's neon zest i was drawn to in the first place. That issue, for me, didnt recover until 1997 and the mount...

    Help from Marin gurus

Square taper, 68mm x probably 107mm. But measure what comes out, if it needs to. I would remove as a service ritual anyways. Even if it gets shoved back in. The shimano LX cranks are added later. But they will suffice, to procure XT or white industries is not necessary. The tech advance is...

    Help from Marin gurus

Shove the tyres in the washing machine with a pinch of powder. They will clean up quite well. # New brake blocks, clean and lube the chain and you're riding. Considering the overall completeness, its worthy of restoration, the handlebars for example... That bottom bracket. It could be a retro...

    Help from Marin gurus

Ok, if you got on with the claud butler, comfort and geometry wise, i reckon you will get on with the marin. Give it a full strip down and see what may need replacing or servicing. Bottom bracket threads to lube up and all that. Sounds as though most things will be salvageable. Cheers!

    Help from Marin gurus

It will all fall back to you. Its a quality machine for the money, however what's the intended purpose for it? They can have a racey stance. Are you a decent mechanic? It just needs a tweek by the sounds of it. Get some images posted up. Lets have a look!

    Marin Bear Valley rebuild 1992

^ what he said ^ All the consumables will be toast. Cable, headset etc....cheap enough to buy. Challenge yourself to restore it. Lightly scoure away the rusty bits and slap an oily rag over it. See how the finish responds without big dollar layout. Lower end shimano/exage wont be too hard to...

Lowering travel on modern fork (asking for a friend)

Not sure myself, but i wonder if its even possible, ill wait with you. As there is a bottoming-out limit to them, where, tyre vs crown can occur.

    Withdrawn Marin forks + chainring.

Ive been fairly clear on the communication side of things. Dont do this. Anyway, a final nudge up. In fact, thatll do now, ill hold onto the forks.

    Withdrawn Marin forks + chainring.

Cult, rare, retro, muddy blox, alpina-tzars. Type of bump, for the forks. Double the price next week on the 'bay. 😉 with even more daft key words to pull you in.

Yes, the 203mm are rare. Especially the lighter rockstar.
