Help Please to identify model of classic lighweight road bicycle please.

Sure is a nice frame. Back then the "fag paper" clearance between the wheels and the frame was very fashionable, as was making the frame very "upright" with short top tube. Made for a very lively ride, so much so the Pro riders kicked back and their longer distance road frames became a little...

Help Please to identify model of classic lighweight road bicycle please.

Looks like a Roy Thame short wheelbase Road bike from the 70's. They liked the odd "cloverleaf" cutout and sometimes copied the Holdsworth wrap round. Could be a Holdsworth that someone had modified but at that time they had the Classic on their books. The forks however have a very Mercian...

    Rusty Bob Jackson -E.Sussex

531 chainstays were pretty chunky so could be OK. 753 with corrosion like that would almost certainly be toast

TI-Raleigh Team Pro Replica fully restored immaculate vintage bike

I'm not quite sure what it is......the 753 decal is a bit presumptuous lol

    The British bike thread

Carlton numbering 1968-1972 went a bit pants. It's just the lugs that look so much like Carlton Flyer makes me think Carlton. The quite basic finishing of the lugs and rolled tube visible on the chainstay however are not very Carlton

    The British bike thread

Those look like Carlton Flyer cutout lugs rather than the cheap Falcon copy? Too many braze ons for a Falcon who were notoriously stingy with brazing...

    Can anyone identify this frame?

Really nice lug work :). Quite a few frame builders back then did that sort of work. Carpenter?

    SBDU 2

Just noticed the H on the frame number. Allegedly the sign of a custom SBDU where the owner could specify the design etc. Not sure why they would have ordered a road frame with horizontal dropouts, braze ons for front mech, bottle cages, road geometry and fork tangs...... Then dress it up...

I have a vintage Carlton race bike for sale give me offers

Aside from retrobike not running auctions, some more pics might help. Could be one of several 1960 ish models....

    SBDU 2

Time trial specials had decal front head badge instead of metal to save weight IIRC.

Tell me about my wheel (late 70s early 80s?)

Wolber decals were often rectangular. Doesn't bother me at all taking cup and cone hubs, BB or headsets apart. They were designed to come apart for servicing

Tell me about my wheel (late 70s early 80s?)

Seem to recall there was a date on the cone or locknut. The spokes were radial for TT BITD (70's) as they were shorter and hence were shorter / lighter, after all we were drilling holes in everything. Fashion allegedly had nothing to do with it lol. Aero spokes are a little odd if 70's as...

    Another mystery frame.

Is it the photo angle or does the OP frame with wheels have a decidedly slopey top tube?

1960s 'Martyn Young' 531 build (properly finished page 5)

The cable usually has a ferrule as it enters the stem so the hole is the same size as the ferrule not cable. It's usually vertically above the straddle wire. There's a couple of examples on the net. Might be easier to bolt a hanger to the stem above the headset top nut. They were not about...

    Another mystery frame.

Forks look more modern than the frame? Maybe the Ice Blue is the respray colour...

1960s 'Martyn Young' 531 build (properly finished page 5)

I think some manufacturers supplied stems with ready drilled holes. GB maybe

Drill a hole in the stem for the centre pull brakes like we did BITD. :)

    1976 Sid Mottram project

For extra added 70's realism, screw the rear dropout adjusters as far in as possible, including removing the knurled knob so the screw is inside the dropout Then the wheel will sit very precariously on the very entrance of the front of the dropout. This reduces the wheelbase and makes it much...

    What is Raleigh 555 tubing?

It's one of their cro-mo tubes, they did 575 and 400 as well, probably more. I guess it's the composition of the components?
