When did Proflex call it a day?

Never seen a ProFlex with those attributes, but it looks appealing. Would you mind posting photos of the whole bike?

First ever bike build (GT avalanche) - questions

I’ve found that a $350-600 budget will allow you to get XT level parts in good condition and modern-ish bars & seat for decent ergos. Square taper bottom brackets have always been my point of contention. Chainline, width, taper angle, offset, puller tools….all a pain to measure that generally...

MRRY CHRISTMAS WHAT RETRO TAT DID SANTA BRING YOU

It’s retro but not bike. Originals are rare and priced upwards of $4k, so my incredible wife had this made. I think I’ll mount it above the fireplace

What are your favourite bike buys of 2023?

I built/rebuilt/resto’d 6 bikes this year. Of all the bits that have been tinkered with, I find myself most excited about a brand new set of Mavic CrossRide wheels. They were on ebay for a reasonable price. Bladed spokes, straight pull hubs, eyeleted holes, zero miles, and none of that crusty...

    Could I replace a u-brake with v-brakes?

Agreed. U-brakes are quite effective particularly when paired with a booster/arch.

    GT RTS paint colour ootions

Don’t limit yourself to one color for the front triangle. I have a vision for your bike; polish the downtube and mask off the GT logo. Paint it blue/yellow team colors. Peel the GT logo and border it in red. Everything will tie in together with a nod to the retro look. Tell me that wouldn’t...

    Magura brake booster compatibility

The back plate takes the place of the silver arms that wedge the caliper bracket against the bike frame. The back plate can be used if you swap the arms to the elongated nuts that fit into said plate. The front booster functions as the old school brake boosters did to prevent the cantilever...

Help identify this Marin Team frame?

Afterburners dropouts….it’s a good ‘un. If it’s less than $120 and not badly weathered, I’d consider it worth a rebuild.

Doddy's Youtube Channel - Retro Content

Doddy has wealth of 1st hand knowledge on MTB history. Great content from his GMBN days as well as on his channel. His tribute bikes are way cool and he has a great deal of reverence for his retro bikes. Definitely worth seeking out those youtube videos.

Where is everyone getting 1 1/4” headset spacers nowadays?

I’ll have a package heading to @wadsy in the near future. I ask if I can pack it all together to cut shipping costs.

Where is everyone getting 1 1/4” headset spacers nowadays?

I’d be happy to sell the majority in the photo. Where are you located? And I’m not familiar with “3DV”.

Why do you collect retro bikes?

    Sup’s Pile of Bike Projects

Everything was fully disassembled, cleaned, lubed and re assembled on these two. I had to swap rear hubs to put the red wheels on the Iron Horse. She got new pedals, stem, tires, handlebars and cables. The Orbea got a few parts donated from the Iron Horse to be more matchy. A set full XTR...
