Gt Avalanche 00 2000 rear wishbones question

My son has a 12.5” Avalanche of similar vintage. It has very shapely chainstays as well. https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/sup’s-gt-avalanche-12-5”-build.458911/page-3 You’re fortunate to have one with exceptionally cool livery. Build that thing. It’ll look awesome.

    Kona Cable Guide Stops

I had a bag of those Jagwire stops and they are HUGE. They might be too big for the cable guides on the Kona. ProFlex stops or the re-pop Yeti stops may fit. (good info here from andym999: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/andys-proflex-856.452006/page-2) wadsy might have some of the...

    90s GT Avalanche Build questions

A 10 speed cassette is pretty big for an old steelie. You may need a derailleur hanger extender to keep the jockey wheels from hitting the cassette and move the cable clamp south of the cogs.

Ways to fix chainline (GT Team Avalanche)

I assume you need the chainring to sit closer to the seattube and that it’s a 1x set up. The BB spacers are maxxed out having been moved to the non-driveside cup. You might be able to add some spacers between the chainring and crank. I suggest riding first to see what gear you will spend the...

    Lower your nose?

Yeah, as we age it becomes “a thing”. 25 years ago I would have been okay perched on a red brick.

    Lower your nose?

About 2/3 down the webpage below there is a graphic of fitting the seat angle to your sit bones https://bikefit.com/blogs/bikefit-blog/sit-bones-width-measurement-and-bike-saddle-selection

    Bottom bracket query

might be one of these scenarios

    Bottom bracket query

Those BB’s are labeled “do not disassemble”. Pretty sure if that’s a dare. A successful rebuild will yield you a lightweight reliable drivetrain and the easiest chainline to set up. I love the elegant simplicity of the Hollowtech II cranksets.

Shimano HG-71 chain - quick link removal

There’s a few of those links in the stable and they are fiddly. I take the thin pointy end of a zip tie and wedge it under the edge of the non-pin link to provide outward pressure. Then grasp the chain with both hands like I’m breaking a pencil in order to get the pins to flex toward one...

    Today's Ride

Hahaha, well, we’re lightweights. It was 58*F out, which is virtually “freezing”. It took some heavy motivation to go out and ride with a chill like that. Seeing the bikes was a treat. The guy with the Karakoram had a “Steel is real” sweatshirt that earned him extra cool points.

    Magura Adjustments

It looks like there’s enough there to put together a full set of perfectly functional brakes. Given the absence of adjustment it may take some time for the pads to fully seat, but they are Magura. I expect that they will bring the bike to a stop very effectively. I’d bolt ‘em up without a...

    Magura Adjustments

No toe adjustment. The pads affix to a ball that would prevent it from holding the angle. Magura has some good Youtube tutorials on how to align the calipers.

    Sup’s ‘96 ProFlex 856 Resto-Mod

The ceramic CrossMax rims chattered with the Magura pads so they were swapped for a pair of new CrossRide wheels.

1997 Marin Hawk Hill restomod - not one for the purists!

A black seatpost perhaps, but not a silver stem. There’s a nice contrast between the black stem and silver bars.

    Today's Ride

Rode the local bike trails with the family. It’s the first time I’ve been on the Orbea, usually I ride a Marin Hawk Hill resto-mod. The Orbea is super nice….efficient & light. I like it much more than I want to.
