Bought the cheapest M1 on the net - help with ID and specs?

It would look sweet if it worked! Do it!!!

What Retrobike "feature" do you avoid when looking for bikes?

I hope no one says 'wishbone seat stays'.

What Retrobike "feature" do you avoid when looking for bikes?

I'm just not a fan of the aesthetics of E-stay frames. It's similar to the reason I can't bring myself to love the mint Klein Adept I paid a pittance for - every time I look at it, all I see is a too-vertical seat tube.

Are all of the orange Manitou forks 'Mango'?

Update on mango-matching: The X-vert Super mango matches the colour of the 'swoop' in the Y22 decal, but it's a totally different different orange than on the URT 20240327_201301 by Rented Mule, on Flickr 20240327_201317 by Rented Mule, on Flickr I think it's going to look decent once it's...

I did find one. Thanks though, I appreciate it!

Bought the cheapest M1 on the net - help with ID and specs?

Progress has been made! I had shock mounting hardware machined so I could finally get it standing on its own. For the record, the lower shock bolt is nothing exotic, just an M6 x 75 mm. The top shock bolt is an M8 x 50 with a lock nut. I couldn't source socket head cap screws locally so I just...

    All things Canadian.....

Forgive the orange seatpost collar - it was the only 30.0 mm I could find locally to get this finished: 20240324_180047 by Rented Mule, on Flickr

Are all of the orange Manitou forks 'Mango'?

Great info on the paint matching - I considered asking that but didn't think anyone would have that info. I have a SID on hand that would match the frame functionally, but it's red and nothing close to the red of the frame. I could repaint it mango.

Are all of the orange Manitou forks 'Mango'?

Amazing, thanks Cloverleaf! I knew there would be an expert on here! I may grab a cheap X-Vert Super that fits the bill. Twozaskars - that's a great looking Y. Maybe it's time to get another?!

Are all of the orange Manitou forks 'Mango'?

I recently picked up a second Y-bike frame, this time a '97 Blaze Red/Mango Y22. It seems these were sold with a matching Manitou in some flavor, and I'd like to find one that matches the colour scheme of the frame. Are all of the Manitou forks from that era the same orange, or was there one...

    Corretec Racebow

I've always thought the continuous curve from top tube into seat stays was beautiful on those frames.

Trek Y22 on Berm Peak Express

Back in the day, I loved how they looked but I owned a Horst Link FSR and drank the Specialized Koolaid so I hated on the Y's suspension quirks (without having ever ridden one). Now I have 3 Horst Link bikes in the fleet but pick the Y33 (at 22 lb) every time I get a chance to ride!

< 5 kg lightest MTB for races with components from 90's to 00's

My vote is fake. Maybe 8 kg, but even that's really pushing it with 3 rings and a front mech. If it was weighed with the fishing scale pictured, that would explain it.

    Intense M1 1996 - Palmer replica

Agreed, great project! I'm at a similar point in my M1 but I'm not focusing on replicating a particular race bike so it's a bit more open ended. Looking forward to seeing the finished project! On a related note, a later model, new old stock M1 frame was up on Ebay for something like $3200 USD...

    V Brake bosses VS arms

I'd find a appropriately-sized washer and file an edge to accommodate the spring pin (or whatever it's called - that bit of the spring that seats into the frame) if it's needed.

What highly rated products did the bike media convince you to buy, only to not live up to the review?

Bad: Syncros seatposts, SDG BelAir saddle, Shimano dual control and rapid rise (I agree on the RS Indy forks) Good: Trek Y, Nashbar 853, Englund Total Air
