    Early Saracen Lovers Anonymous......

Re: They made various Special Editions i 1991 that all looked the same. My then girlfriend had one with 300LX that shared the same paint scheme. It was too small for me but I had to race on it when the Browning fork on my Marin PM crapped itself. I could never get the seatpost to stay up...

My 1989 Kona Cinder Cone - Splatter Paint

Lovely bike and a great wish list. I'd have gone for an Orange Prestige instead but basically the same list I'd have made in 1990. I have a garage full of exotic bikes from that period and I'd trade several of them for a 1990 Explosif. One day.

    19?? Carrera Krakatoa GT

Re: Definitely a 1990. My first ever MTB was the 1989 with Exage Country, and the 1990 had the 300LX. Mine was 259 GBP and that was full retail. I was originally sold a 22" frame (I'm 5'10"...). After two years and many offroad miles I snapped the right chainstay just forward of the dropout...

    1993 Kona Cinder Cone

Re: Re: Not yet, not even sure where it fits in to the queue of projects. Your CC looks stunning though. What width tyres? They look a fraction wider than normal, which looks really sweet. I'll probably go down the M735 route too, rather than the lightweight factory spec (sugino cranks SS7s...

Rear suspension that relied on flex of the chain stays???

Re: To the guy that was looking - I've got a 2002 KHS Team Soft Tail in an 18" - white with blue decals and disc tabs. Postage could be pricey though. I built it into a gravel bike once and put the back wheel in last of all, only to realise that the shock reduces the clearance too much for...

    Pace RC100

Re: I saw a courier RC100 back in the mid nineties in London. Completely covered in black cloth tape to disguise it and still totally unmistakable. Could still see a flash of yellow at the bottom of the fork blades. Don't recall the back brake though...

    BotM December 2018 - Flagship gruppos.....no thankyou!

Re: Most of these bikes pre-date XTRs introduction. I consider DX to be pretty high end. It features in regular Botm competitions and came on some pretty expensive bikes. I reckon DX thumbies are fine, but a whole g/s is a bit much for the theme? Some lovely DX bikes though

    Specialized Rockhopper 1991

Re: Really nicely done. Black rims and it would be truly great.

    Is this a GT Psyclone?

I also raised the question of the crash damaged forks. He had a bit of a rant about people making shit up to try and get stuff off him cheap. He was quite rude.

    Is this a GT Psyclone?

I don't think Apollo used u brakes, they might have been later to the triple triangle trend. Shotgun had cable stops, not the tube under the top tube, and their u brakes were on chainstays. Possibly.

    Is this a GT Psyclone?

This has been on trademe for months, dropouts are all wrong, eyelets are wrong and a heap of other stuff. I did the same homework ages ago.

    Too Much Seat post??

With no tyres on the rims, the frame sits lower relative to the floor, which makes the saddle to top tube gap look even bigger. You also have the saddle slid forwards on an inline post on a frame that is potentially too small, if the saddle was in the right position it wouldn't look so ungainly...

BotM June 2018 - Fluoro special THE VOTE

Whoa, won BoTM at first attempt. Thanks to all that voted for my Serotta. There were some stunning bikes in that lineup. I'm going to put some RM20/XTs on it and finish the local winter mountain bike race series on it (give the old RC200 a rest). It's too good a ride to be a garage queen.

1 inch Project Two fork wanted

1 inch Project Two fork wanted with long threaded steerer for a 1990 Cinder Cone Restoration. It was original from the head tube backwards. Headset, fork, stem and controls all missing. If you think you have one then I'll work out how long I need the steerer to be but it's such a long shot...

    Serotta Content - 1992 T Max Project DONE :)

Re: I said ages ago that I'd add some pics of my own T-Max, I've managed to add two for BoTM but will try harder to get a thread on here. In the meantime, have a quick look at the Serotta Team paint scheme in all its glory. 8)

1988 Kona Fire Mountain - finished!

Re: I have one too, complete with curved Project Two, except mine is a different colour scheme. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=362314&p=2699602#p2699602 Mine is the same colour as most Explosifs of 1988/89. Your splatter ones seem to be the same as the Explosifs of 1989/90?

    1993 Kona Cinder Cone

Re: I always wanted a 1993 Kona with these two colour paint schemes. Finally got a Cinder Cone and it hasn't got the second colour - just the champagne beige. All original right down to tyres, just a different paint scheme. Any others around?

boy"O"boy's 1992 Marin Pine Mountain / Browning suspension

Re: I bought one of these brand new in late 1991, but it was a 1992 model. Orange and black but the black zolatone style paint was barely textured and came off easily. Full DX with RM17s. It did have a Tange Prestige sticker but the frame weighed around 5 lbs in a 17.5" - hardly a lightweight...
