1996 Marin Eldridge grade component advice

I had some of those brakes which were fitted with the same Ritchey pads as those, and swapped out the pads for some new ones. They should be compatible with any cantilever brake pads.

Replacement freehub body for Shimano 5501

The freehub for that hub is a bit longer than most other 8/9/10 speed freehubs, so you need to get the right one.

Sugino mighty 900 Q factor ? Similar to Ritchey logic ? Other ST cranks with low stance width for 1X set up ( will use between 34 and 28 T )

The LX m563 is slightly wider using the same 107mm bottom bracket (around 165 mm) and cheaper and easier to get hold of.

Sugino mighty 900 Q factor ? Similar to Ritchey logic ? Other ST cranks with low stance width for 1X set up ( will use between 34 and 28 T )

I've got some Sugino Mighty 900 cranks and I'm using a 107mm bottom bracket(68mm shell). The q factor appears to be approximately 160mm.

What do do about stretched binder bolt lugs

Something like that happened to a Raleigh road bike that I had. The seat post although the correct size (27.2) was dented slightly, due to over tightening( it was a chromo steel one) which effectively made it too small. I replaced it with a different alloy one and that solved the problem.

    Which Paint Would You Use

Don't use Halfords aerosols, they're terrible (well the base coat/colour anyway, the primer is ok). I attempted to paint a frame a few years ago using them and I gave up and used a spray gun instead. The Halfords paint is so thin and runny you'd need about 5 cans to paint a frame and fork...

XT M730 rear hub freehub swap

I know what you mean but if you put a cassette on, the chain whip will allow you get enough leverage.

XT M730 rear hub freehub swap

You don't need to build into a wheel, just put a cassette on it and use a chain whip.

Spoke Length for a Retro Rim Mavic

I recently built some wheels with those rims and Shimano hubs and I used 262,264 and 265 mm spokes. My hubs are both 32 holes. I think most Shimano hubs have the same BCD (a bit bigger on the rear).

    Freehub body bolt

I've got four from four different hubs and they all appear to be the same. One was from an Alivio MC12 7 speed I think. The others were from an LX M565, an LX M570 and the other a Sora 3300. They're about 34 mm in length.

    '95 Marin stem cap?

I made one out of a Ritchey bar end plug. Filed/sanded the logo off. Fits quite well.

Vintage Holdsworth Elan. 1984. Campagnolo Gran Sport

I had two of these back in the eighties. They both got stolen, the first one in 1984. I spotted it on eBay a few months ago - 37 years after it was stolen. I knew it was the same machine as it had a very distinctive dent on the top tube and all the same upgrades as I'd done to mine in 1983.

    deore lx hub m563

I've done this conversion a few times and the 8 speed freehub will require thinner spacers and locknuts or it'll be too wide. (and re-dishing)

    Reynolds 653

It's probably worth more money if sold as parts. Sante components can be worth decent money if they're in good condition. The frame itself has been re-painted which won't help it's value but if it's been done well could still be worth quite good money. Without clear pictures from the drive side...

Modern groupset on a Retro frame - anyone done it

I'm modernising mine gradually. I've changed the wheels to more modern ones and the rear mech. I may change the brakes next for dual pivot and then maybe change to 2x10 with sti's.

Early 90's Marin for road duties - weight question

They're Vredstein Slicks 1.3. I don't know whether you can still get them but you can get something similar. They weigh about 400 grams each and you can pump them up to 90 psi. I've also got an Orange in similar guise using the City Jet tyres which weighs around 10.5 kg. It's almost as fast I'd...

Early 90's Marin for road duties - weight question

I did exactly what you're thinking about doing with a 95 Pine Mountain and it weighs around 9.7 kg. I took off the granny ring and run it as a 2x8. The gearing of course will depend on you and the terrain you will be riding in. I live in a flat area and use only the large ring (42) and the...
