rBoTM RBotM October 2022 - Open Month - Enter now!!!

To keep the numbers up a bit and because I haven't entered in far too long I'll post my paint your wagon special that still gets a fair bit of use. This one was a save of sorts, no one could identify this frame so it ended up becoming the subject of a thread on painting your bike with rattle...

    Anyone into classic cars

My B10 was bought as a donor with the intention of converting the e24 635 I had at the time into an Alpina but when I got it home I thought I can't do it, it was a testament to why some people shouldn't have nice things as it was the most rotten car I've seen in a long time and missing all its...

    Anyone into classic cars

Nice car. nice colour, nice wheels. Funny enough I once bought an e34 535se just because it had a set of genuine Alpina wheels on it. I bought a genuine e34 B10 that had been stripped of all its cosmetic Alpina bits so a complete spares car for all the normal bits was very useful and the wheels...

    Anyone into classic cars

Yep, VW's were never my thing but I know plenty that love them so went to a good few shows myself over the years and saw it decline into the domain of the moneyed idiot.

Anyone familiar with Ken James's work?

Ken was known to refurb other peoples frames (someone on one of the facebook groups has one that's actually an Orbit) and put his decals on and he built pretty much anything the customer wanted so there's no real way of knowing. If I get 5 minutes I'll have a look at both of mine to see if...

Brands we never see on RB?

One's linked in my signature Here for ease of clicking https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/oops-it-followed-me-home-honest-it-did-late-80s-ken-james.423856/ The other I've had for more years than I care to admit and although it won;t be the one you saw outside a supermarket it's certainly...

Yes I have and yes he's superb. I want the Alpina B7 he did but sadly they're so rare here that is very unlikely.

Brands we never see on RB?

I should have added this one a while ago but I did a Geoffrey Butler a few years ago (it's in my signature below), I have another that's not in my signature but still to be done. There's also a couple of unusalish European ones in my signature: Francesco Moser Jan Jansen Navarro Lucasa Meral...

    1986 Raleigh Sirocco

Lovely thing and a very good price. I've had the earlier one which didn't have Reynolds tubing but was built in the old Carlton works as if it had and still have the later one that is 531 and both are superb machines so I expect this one will be just as good.

    Retrolectric bike

A little update. So far I've covered 21 miles and still have half a charge left in the battery so I reckon range is going to be in the 40 plus miles range.

    Retrolectric bike

Yes it does and no it didn't take anywhere near that long to charge

As this was an experiment cost was a factor so the the price of this kit which included the batteries couldn't really be ignored.

Well so far so good with this thing. I've liked it so much I've built another for my wife which we took out on its maiden voyage today. She deliberately went out and found every hill she could and couldn't get over how good it was at hill climbing. I've not put that many miles on mine yet but...

    Retrolectric bike

I did look at them but there were a couple of things I didn't like about the concept with the cost compared to what I bought being the most off putting. My kit cost £391 where to get the equivalent from Swytch would be more than 3 times as much. At their cheapest their kits are still vastly more...

    Retrolectric bike

Cheap batteries and power supplies from the far east are always a concern so sensible precautions like not leaving things unattended when charging are always wise. The good news is that is that power supplies made anywhere tend to fail early in life so if its survived a little while then all...

Have a look at the lower end of the e bike market and there are a lot of very cheap bikes that have the electric kit added in exactly the same way I have. Looking at the quality of the frames on a lot of them I think I'd much rather trust my well built Raleigh frame over most of them.

    Nocim....my Edwardian hotrod speed machine!

My hats visibly off to you sir. That was a thoroughly engaging read and what a machine, brilliant.

TBH @Peachy! against the strain I put much lower quality frames through with the weight I put on them and the heights I used to jump them as a child riding around the bomb crater strewn woods of Kent, what I'm asking of this frame is a doddle
