Nostalgic Raleigh or forget it and move on...

Funnily enough I nearly bought one recently. Functionally it was exactly what I was looking for but I couldn't get past the gold bling so I ended up not bidding. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Ralei ... true&rt=nc

    Fs James Bond car

I can remember quite a few of my friends having the Dinky version. I had never heard of James Bond (I've still only seen one Bond film) and couldn't understand why it said "OOT" on the bonnet.

How many bikes in your house?

Eight, five of which are mine. Nine, I've just remembered another one (not mine).

    Loose spokes

Thanks for all the replies. Despite saying I was going to let a shop do it I decided to have a go myself yesterday. Most of the spokes adjusted with the snapping sound that was mentioned above, some moved smoothly and a couple broke. I've ordered a full set of stainless spokes- if I'm feeling...

    Loose spokes

I'm optimistic about the nipples being free because they must have unscrewed themselves (I know there are other possibilities but I'm choosing to ignore them), the wheels are much newer than the bike. Having said that I think I will take Shaun's advice and get a shop to do it, I have another...

    Loose spokes

I bought a nice but tired Raleigh Royal at the weekend. When had a go at riding it the front wheel was creaking quite badly, which I quickly discovered was caused by all of the spokes being loose. The first question is how would that happen? The rim seems to run fairly true, I don't think it's...

    Alternative to gatorskins?

I was sold a pair of Continental Super Sport last year, which claimed to have a puncture resisting belt. They were such a nightmare to fit that I got a puncture putting them on. That was galling, but not as galling as when the puncture resisting belt failed to resist a thorn after not very many...

    14-32

I'm sure the 1984/1985 Raleigh Royal I've just bought has a 50/34 chainset and I think it's original. It's got a 14-32 freewheel too, which has been replaced but I believe that's the spec of the original.

Raleigh Eclipse, because I really needed another bike

There are a couple of guides here that should help. http://sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/bbadj.html and http://sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/bbcups.html Before considering a replacement BB you should service the existing one. Sheldon Brown suggests doing away with the bearing cages and fitting all new...
