As I stated in my first post it´s Shimano. Don´t know the model but I may put on LX-shifters as well because my kids friend has "normal" shifters and he wants them too :D /J

It´s a pre-used bike that´s seen some use ;) The mech is almost broken in half, so it´s not totally kosher. Will put up pre- and post pics. Thanks all /J

Thanks Charlie, that´s the answer I wanted :D I just need it to work with the freewheel, which is threaded btw, so I´m pleased with this advice. As the rear mech really sucks, it´s hard for him doing smooth gear changes. When done we can mtb together for real, which will be so cool! Thanks again...

Hi, I recently got my kid his first 26" mtb with 7 speed Shimano Tourney mech. It´s got Shimano grip shift-style gear shifting. The rear mech is totally wasted and I´m wondering if I can use a LX rear mech instead? It´s ca 1998-ish LX mech, so it´s 8-speed. All help appreciated :) /J

I´ve finally put in the un-91 bb that I got a year and a half ago. The old one (and original) gave up the ghost so it was about time... With a little luck I´ll update some more if ebay is kind to me :mrgreen: /J

Good for you :) But I really think you should ride it. It´s made for that and you´ll have lots of fun doing it. My first "real" bike was a 930, which really opened my eyes how fun mtb was :twisted: How ´bout some pics? /J

Go to the gallery on this forum and check out the Bontrager manuals. The geometry are in those. Looks a nice bike :) Seeing as you are going period more or less, maybe an XTR M900 seat post? I use one myself and it´s really light, period and steel... /J

Hey sinner! Really cool pics :D That bike is totally awesome, thanx a lot for showing! And yes, the 1st gen race lite wheels were CK. The 2nd gen, like these, were DT. 240 hubs if I recall correctly. I have a front 2nd gen wheel and it weighs 10 g more than my 1st gen wheel. Thanx again...

A little update as I´ve committed using the privateer as a commuter bike :facepalm: I´ll try using a 42/18 gearing for starters as I´ve got lots of heavy climbing to and fro work. Hopefully I won´t go back using the race lite, but time will tell. Reusing a 42T XT chainring... In all it´s...
