Bringing a 93 Kilauea back from the dead

Sometimes luck is on your side and for this 93 Kilauea it's side aswell, because it's going to be brought back from the dead at the Kona sanctuary 😁

I've been hunting for ages looking for the elusive 19 inch 93 Kilauea to put back in my Kona collection after stupidly selling my old one and this beauty popped up for sale by Whayne, all i thought was please do postage 😂 which he kindly did 🥳

So while i'm waiting for it to arrive in the Kona A&E department to get major surgery i've been hatching a plan for the build.
With this effectively being a blank canvas to work from with the frame being bare and not having to worry about keeping things original,i can do a one of one 93 Kilauea like i've done with previous Konas. I've got an idea but i'm just not sure if the powder coaters i use could do it and if the effect i'm aiming for would actually look good, something to ponder over while i wait for it to turn up.

These are the photos off Whayne of the Kilauea and if anyone has seen my wanted add for this Kilauea have a look and see if you's have any of the parts i'm looking for, especially the black Dia Compe 987 cantilevers. I've made my mind up on those they 100% have to be on the bike, it's all about finishing details on the look of this bike 😁

I've felt a bit flat the past month or so about building my bikes but this has really reignited the spark again because this could be one of the best Konas i've done 😁

What powder effect are you wanting? I've a great contact who isn't taking on new work but I'm sure i could lump it in with my stuff next time.

What powder effect are you wanting? I've a great contact who isn't taking on new work but I'm sure i could lump it in with my stuff next time.
So the idea i got came from looking at my two Explosifs and then my old 20" Kilauea to get some inspiration.
Then i thought what if the powder coaters can do a fade but with a twist which is where the splatter Explosif gave me an idea. That depending on light and looking at it from different angles can look black, green, blue. So what if you done the rear half of the bike with say a black with a maroony colour in it and the front half, forks and stem black with a silver in it. So when you looked at it one way it looked black but then if you looked at it another way it would reveal the two colours to mimic the original paint scheme of the 93 Kilauea.
But the more i've thought about it and even if they could do a fade it just might not work and could end up as an example, with a fork leg looking silver and the rest of the bike looking black or just a mismatch of colours turning it into an expensive mistake lol

I don’t think you’d achieve it via powder. It’s come on a long way but that sounds like a wet paint job
That's what i was starting to think and with it not being destined to be a garage queen the cost of having it done doesn't seem worth it, although Kilaueas are good it's still a Kilauea not a boutique branded bike.
I'm heading towards having a dark mettalic colour with a maroony/red fleck in it so under different light or how you looked at it you could see that colour pop out as a nod to towards the non european colour scheme they did where the frame was all mettalic maroon like this.

I’m probably not the person to advise since I’m 4 months on and still haven’t decided what colour to paint my Hot.

Wet paint from a bike painter in that scheme you say will be best part of £500.

Single colour powder or ceramic is about £70-100.

For my hot which will be a garage queen im leaning towards a wet paint single colour candy.

If you plan to use it. I’d go powder in a nice colour. All of my current repaints are in powder and it would pass as paint.
