Mine does have the chromed chainstay and dropouts. They had some minor surface rust starting when I got it but cleaned up nicely with metal polish.

History: I’m told this bike originally belonged to Eric Crowe of Whistler bike racing fame who past it along to Richie S. and then to David P. Supposedly Paul Brodie used to give out these frames as prizes for winning mountain bike races back in the day. Maybe this was one of these prizes

Donor bike: The Shimano Deore XT parts/ wheels/bars etc. came off this 1989 Rocky Mountain Blizzard. ( It was for a good cause ).
