    Help identifying bike

Interesting! Most frames that used AX components BITD were made to Shimano specs by Japanese suppliers, such as Araya and Miki. In each country a local distributor was apparently given the rights to sell them: Jan Janssen in Holland, Norta in Belgium, Standish in Australia, etc. It would be...

What we get at the shop.

Nice to see there are still shops which do this kind of thing. 👍 This, BTW, is what the Jan Janssen would have looked like earlier: Looks like yours still has the famous XO Sewepe cranks. :)

    Bakewell cycle jumble

A small tart was part of the Eroica goodie bag. I recall the taste of apricots and chicken fat. Very tasty! 🥰

    Bakewell cycle jumble

Wish I could. Fond memories of our stay in Bakewell for Eroica Brittania in 2018.

    Vintage French randonneuer's and porteurs.

The name Roulers (French for Roeselare) and the drum brakes make me think this is in fact a Belgian bicycle. The picture quality isn't great, but if that dark spot on the left fork blade is in fact a braze-on for a tax plate, that would confirm it.

    Saddle height confusion

I am not sure I understand the problem. Or whether there is a problem. If you're happy with your saddle at 733mm why not just leave it there? And if you're curious, lower it 1/4" and see if that feels better. FWIW, my saddles are also higher than most formulas tell me it should be. Doesn't...

Bikes and... wait for it, wait for it, Churches!

St Urban's church in Nes aan de Amstel this morning: And two for the price of one later this afternoon in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. Amstel church on the left, another St Urban's on the right. The old Pope was popular in this area:

    His bikes

One thing I still needed to do was finish the bike I'd chosen as my designated winter bike before the winter is actually finished. I have a trip to Amsterdam planned for tomorrow, so today would be a good day for that job. :) I needed a bike that would be nice enough to want to ride it, but...

It is. And I am trying to keep the number of yellow bikes to a minimum. ;) A somewhat better view of the same situation:

Nice day for church spotting today. :) The Christian Reformed Church in Aarlanderveen.

Forward facing dropouts and mudguards. Always a pain?

They're €5.90 at Goldsprint: Velo Orange Spring Thing. I added a couple to my order when ordering mudguards from them. It's a 64cm frame. One of the reasons I generally prefer older frames is that their larger clearances for tyres and mudguards comes with a shorter head tube, which makes them...

Forward facing dropouts and mudguards. Always a pain?

... and - like me - you're vain and feel that on some bikes a nice tight 'fender line' is important. :) On a more serious note: if you want to fit mudguards on a racing machine you'll have to be prepared to have to let some air out of the tyre before you can remove the rear wheel. Not a...

Forward facing dropouts and mudguards. Always a pain?

Yes, you are making sense. I very much recognize the problem.. If you have enough room, i.e. long enough chain stays, there's this solution from Velo Orange, called the "thingy", I believe. It allows the front part of the mudguard to move forward by compressing the spring, which will allow the...

I've had a wisdom tooth removed by a dentist whose phone number I kept. I am going to call her when my spanner extension bar isn't up to the task of removing a stuck fixed cup.
