Di Lorenzo/Masciarelli (Billato) - Mystery Frame

Michum

Dirt Disciple
Hello, i'm looking for an italian bike for next years Eroica tuscany and i've found this pretty machine. Framese looks gorgeous and i can equip it with campagnolo or gipiemme groupset. I wonder if anyone has more informations about this bike? I've tried to do my research but found nothing. Also what is Masciarelli? I've found Italian wine called like it but nothing else.

The bike is a Di Lorenzo
You should find info online, like this:

https://steel-vintage.com/products/...woPbehfXAX_6o-fPvY9RbiIQIfyy_m9SNcYOsWzuYE8KA

The stickers have been added by someone to either disguise the bike or for a laugh.
Peel them off and find the right ones.
I was thinking the same but unfortunately i could not find di Lorenzo with these symbols pantographed. If you look closely on the lugs and on the fork there is DL on this bike, not full Di Lorenzo like on the one i've posted.

But you're not going to fake lug castings and then get it wrong - you'd just copy what you're trying to fake.
And it's so expensive that I've never seen it done.. yet.

The frame details look right compared to other dLs

These lug pantographs are clearly rare - you need to find a di lorenzo marque enthusiast - steel-vintage gathered some information so you could start by asking them?
Otherwise locate the manufacturing base and ask the local bike shop!
Brush up your Italian?

Agreed, no one is going to go to the bother of faking lugs. On a similar point, I've never seen a Colnago fake that was in any doubt a total fake! The Chinese carbon C59s were quite convincing but no cigar 🤐😂

We were looking at some fake bianchi carbon forks. Good finish and stickers, but a quick examination of the steerer and dropouts and all was clear.
Confirmed by bianchi too.

If you're making a fake, it will be way lower quality, otherwise what's the point?

To be fair the C59 fake I saw (and another C64) were very good attempts. Especially the C64, the build quality was excellent and it was all but identical to a Colnago C64 (small details round the seat stays but that was it)
For the life of me I can't understand why you might buy one...! When the fake C59s arrived on the scene they were cheap and cheerful and the paint finishes were very realistic. They would probably fool most people who weren't too familiar with the brand.

Even the current crop fakes are priced out of the market now, nearly a grand from China plus the taxes! Though I would never drop 4.5K on a new Colnago frame, it just seems kinda ridiculous..!

I know a guy who's tried to fake an SBDU with an old Raleigh Competition, which actually looks the part - but on any close inspection it's a ringer. Makes me wonder how many dubious types might have stamped a bottom bracket 'SBxxxx' even just for the hell of it!

This is the Alibaba stab at the C68, it's not too bad 😲

This fake Hetchins by CT Wallis is at least not pretending to be the real deal 🤐
