Shimano Ultegra/600 downtube shifter issue.

That's the ones. They fit onto the existing frame mounts and then the shifter fits on top. The photo shows why you can't get the existing frame mounts off as they're screwed through from each side. You have to use a 7mm spanner on the black flats on either the drive side or non drive side to unscrew it.

To demonstrate how they fit, see the photos. Ignore the the broken part of the tab in the first photo as it still has enough thread for the shifter to screw onto.

Ahh... It all makes sense now.
Glad I called it a day and sought advice on here before I damaged something!
That's brilliant, thanks very much 👍

I had those on my Vitus but I thought it was to do with a steel Orange not an aluminium one
It's an aluminium Orange Dynamo road bike, read my 1st post 😉. Think all the Dynamo's, including the later momostay ones, were aluminium.

What was the Orange road bike you had then? It definitely looks skinny steel tubed to me 🤔

my DT shifters fell off after the retaining bolt similar to the above simply decided it no longer wanted to do the job of holding the shifter mounts in place

It was a long long single speed ride home
